@Nem It is becoming unprofitable. Look, there was no talk of replacing console discs in the 2000s (remember the failure of Siren: Blood Curse on PS3?), and while there were debates in the 2010s, by the 2020s it has become obvious: physical media are becoming a thing of the past.
I’m going to buy a PS6, and I don’t care about discs or the drama surrounding them. PC gaming hasn’t had discs since 2010, yet nobody whines about it—everyone loves the Steam monopoly.
I want to remind you that the PS5 disc drive doesn't work without an internet connection due to DRM. In other words, the very thing that doomed the Xbox One in 2013 is now accepted as the norm.
Digital downloads account for roughly 80% to 85% of all full-game software sales on PlayStation consoles, with physical discs making up the remaining 15% to 20%. Physical media is dead.

Sony ought to award Phil Spencer a medal for dismantling Microsoft's gaming business.

@kcarnes9051 You can play PS4 games on the PS5, I can't speak for the PS3, but this issue has been with us since 2013.

@kcarnes9051 Play the game without using your Steam account.

Do you think Sony will support discs forever? Or Microsoft? No—and why deny the inevitable?

Re: Sony Abandons Social Media for 24 Hours+ After Controversially Killing Physical Games
I haven't bought physical game discs since 2015, so it's not a problem for me.
