If GTA wasn’t imminent, I wonder how different the hardware numbers might look.

@get2sammyb yeah outraged and doomer culture is trendy on social media at the moment. none of it is real PlayStation is still doing well.

Hardware sales should go up again for GTA 6 and Zelda. Nintendo said they didn’t make enough for the demand of the Zelda Switch 2 console and controllers and plan to release more. Sony could sell some Pro’s when and if they can get some shipped to stores. Cause used ones selling for $1500 is just insane.

The GTA6 effect, late August was when the GTA6 marketing campaign properly started and the time we knew the game for certain wasn't being delayed to 2027 so as a result lots of people picked up a PS5 in September.

The power of GTA should never be underestimated, there will never be a gaming juggernaut like this again. Seems like the marketing rights were worth every penny/cent.

@get2sammyb yeah i agree with that Sammy. I think NIntendo will explode in sales when we see the new games it’s cooking in its big IP. A New 3D Mario, Zelda, Pokémon, Animal crossing etc etc has yet to be revealed. Plus a lot of parents are telling their kids to stick with their switch and to your point not diving into that upgrade price yet.

Sony and MS can get away easier with $500 dollar consoles. Nintendo that is a large ask to hand over to a 7-14 year old. That the parent knows is still hard on things. The Switch at $299 was a no brainer. $499 i think you are right, it’s a large ask.

@HonestHick seems to me if next gen can get gta6 running at 60fps then people might be willing to turn a blind eye to the exorbitant prices being bandied about.
The only thing I'm not looking forward to are the amount of GTA 6 related articles we will undoubtedly get post launch (even if it's understandable for engagement reasons).

@Llamageddon yeah that game is going to be headline story after headline story for a while after launch. Even in real world news it already has articles showing how many workers are taking time off work during the week of its launch. Then of course we will have the dollar amount articles on how much it’s made in certain time. Don’t forget the articles talking about how it’s the biggest entertainment launch of any medium all time.

@HonestHick it doesn't bear thinking about! I will always celebrate a success story though, given how much doom and gloom there has been around the hobby recently.

It really is something to see how many people waited to the last minute to buy a ps5 or ps5 pro just for gta 6, but are now surprised that they are having a hard time obtaining one👀

I’m glad Sony got some hardware sales they can attribute to Wolverine b/c really what other games have they had recently? Having to go back 2 years just to get to Hellsivers 2 kind of says a lot. And we’ll never know if sales were Wolverine related, or Onimusha or GTA, or a little of both or all 3, but at least Sony finally has a win. Feels like it’s been forever.

Nintendo has got to be planning a cheaper Switch Lite 2 or Switch 2 Lite for kids, either when Pokemon releases next year or maybe the year after that. It won’t be as cheap as a $199 Lite but even $299 is better than $549. The screen is so big on the 2 they can cut it by like a 1/3 to save money. And no Joymouse magnets. It’s gotta be coming. Maybe $349, which is a big ask for a kids toy, but it will still sell. Maybe they tie it in with a new Animal Crossing? Hopefully not a new global pandemic though. 😝

@Llamageddon I'm not fussed about the flood of GTA6 articles itself but rather very concerned about what Microsoft and Sony will try to get away with while the focus is so heavily on GTA6.

@Grumblevolcano very true, I share that cynicism. I'd be surprised if job losses were completely swept under the rug though. Push/Pure have both been pretty good in as far as reporting these instances.

No disc no buy huh

I got a Switch 2 and a second PS5(slim with the disc drive) and half a dozen switch 2 games last week. Christmas gifts for my two kids. Figured I’d get it sooner so any price increases.

@get2sammyb Not surprising at all with GTA 6 being imminent and Xbox hardware being unavailable, more expensive and frankly almost irrelevant nowadays.

That game is moving the casual masses in a way we have never seen, it’ll be many people’s entry into console gaming or going back after generations of not gaming at all, GTA 6 will single-handily put the spotlight in the gaming industry that desperately needs it because next year is going to be rough.

@get2sammyb your articles reflect the same loss of reality. You've been leading the charge on the anti-Sony, grab-the-pitchforks outrage for months here at Push Square including misleading articles predicting all sorts of doom for Sony.
