You Should See Sony's Zelda Movie During Tomorrow's Anniversary Direct 1

Nintendo is hosting a 40th Anniversary Direct for The Legend of Zelda tomorrow, which promises news and updates on the iconic franchise.

The broadcast will of course include footage of its previously announced Ocarina of Time remake, which some expect to launch on the Switch 2 in November, right alongside GTA 6.

However, further communication from the Mario maker confirms the presentation will “feature a variety of The Legend of Zelda-related information”, with a trailer of Sony Pictures’ forthcoming film sure to be on the agenda.

Fans noticed the Japanese giant recently registered a website URL for the movie, ahead of its release on 30th April, 2027.

Principle photography – led by director Wes Ball – wrapped earlier this year, so it’s about time we got a first proper look at the project, and this seems like the perfect venue for that.

As a reminder, the movie will star Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda. It’s being produced by video game veteran Shigeru Miyamoto alongside long-time Sony Pictures collaborator Avi Arad, who’s perhaps best known for the Tobey Maguire trilogy of Spider-Man films.

I’m really interested to see how this shapes up because there’s a danger a live action Zelda movie could end up looking like bad cosplay.

But given the success of the two Super Mario movies, I imagine Sony’s putting some real money behind this film. I’m looking forward to the inevitable trailer tomorrow.
