Call of Duty

For years now, the hardcore Call of Duty: Warzone playerbase has complained about the stupid skins you'll spot running about the Battle Royale. It is, after all, a bit of an immersion breaker when you bump into Lionel Messi and Snoop Dogg out on the battlefield.

Activision is finally listening to the criticism in an update that goes live alongside Modern Warfare 4 which lets players turn off the paid skins other players are wearing.

This only affects your game; those other players will still be free to equip their chosen skin during matches. However, if you toggle this new setting on, then those skins will be replaced for your viewpoint with generic Modern Warfare 4 characters. This covers teammates and enemies in both the lobby and during games. The setting will be off by default, so you will need to go into the options to apply it yourself.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches for PS5 on 24th October 2026, so the setting will land in Warzone in just under a month.

Unrealistic skins in the Call of Duty franchise has been a sticking point for hardcore players for some time now, and Treyarch and Infinity Ward have actually committed to avoiding them in years past. However, as the games near the end of their yearly content cycle, increasingly silly skins become available.

Just before Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 came out, Treyarch said it would create skins and items that "fit the Black Ops identity". It then made a skin for the controversial comedian Dave Chappelle.

Infinity Ward made a similar statement about Modern Warfare 4, saying everything in the game, including its cosmetics, must "feel authentic to what Modern Warfare is". We'll see how long it sticks to that promise.
