SEGA's Going Nuts with Crazy Taxi Movie, Another Sonic TV Series, and More

SEGA and Netflix are partnering up on several new adaptations of the game publisher's properties into movies and TV shows.

That's according to a report from Variety, which states the companies are working together on a trio of new projects.

The first is something I certainly wasn't expecting: a Crazy Taxi movie.

The film is set to be a comedy, written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, known for penning 2025's The Naked Gun reboot film. It's actually pretty good, to be fair, so this Crazy Taxi flick stands a chance at being a successful (and very silly) adaptation.

Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher will produce alongside Toru Nakahara from SEGA.

Also on the docket are another Sonic animated series aimed at kids, and a movie based on RGG Studio's upcoming action adventure, Stranger Than Heaven.

"Great games already have what every adaptation is chasing — characters people love, worlds they know by heart, and fandoms that show up," says a statement from Brandon Riegg, VP of nonfiction and transmedia at Netflix.

"With Crazy Taxi, Sonic and Stranger Than Heaven, we get to work across three completely different eras of SEGA's catalog, celebrating everything fans love, while introducing them to new audiences."

Nakahara is also excited about these projects. "Expect something cute yet cool for Sonic, hilariously crazy for Crazy Taxi and a badass action drama for Stranger Than Heaven, because we’ve got some amazing creative ideas lined up and we are just getting started," he says. "The whole team is absolutely thrilled!"

SEGA's going pretty mad with adapting its properties to screens big and small. You may recall the Yakuza TV show, and the publisher also recently unveiled an animated show based on Golden Axe. A Persona show is also in the works.

Obviously, the highly successful Sonic movies are still cooking with a fourth on the way.
