Maybe it’s because I’m currently reading the Skypiea arc of the One Piece manga, but I’m a bit obsessed with the new Ascendance expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds.
Coming in 2027, this DLC looks like the real deal, adding new narrative content, gameplay, monsters, and of course environments to explore.
The star of the show is undoubtedly the Skybound Eyrie, the towering vertical metropolis which represents the primary new location being added to the title.
“This mysterious new region features lush open landscapes, ancient ruins, and never-before-seen endemic life,” Capcom’s Joseph Bustos explains on the PS Blog. “A vast and unexplored frontier awaits in the sky!”

Of course, it would all be for naught without new monsters to slay, and Capcom announced a few at today’s State of Play: a wyvern-like creature named Araketa and an elder dragon named the Gundoraja.
One other detail worth paying attention to is the Boost Bracer, activated via the Hunter’s Slinger.
This serves as a kind of personal buff, amplifying the unique characteristics of each individual weapon type in the game.
Capcom will be showing off Ascendance at the PlayStation booth later this month at TGS, so expect more gameplay to trickle out in the coming weeks.
