Publisher Capcom has announced some changes coming to its digital offerings of Monster Hunter Wilds.
The main thing that'll be of interest to most is that the base game is getting its price permanently reduced. It currently goes for $69.99/£64.99 on the PS Store, but as of 4th August, 2026, this price tag will shrink.
Capcom hasn't yet said what it'll change to, but if you were considering buying Wilds, you might want to hold fire for a couple of weeks.
On top of this, the company has said it'll be "streamlining the available options" for the game. It's outlined what's changing in the below posts:

Basically, the Deluxe and Premium Deluxe editions, plus the Cosmetic DLC Pass, are being discontinued on 3rd August and replaced with updated SKUs that include more recent DLC packs.
From that date, your options will be:
- Standard edition (reduced in price)
- Gold edition (includes base game + all DLC released so far)
- Cosmetic DLC Collection (a bundle of all the DLC packs)
- Extras Cosmetic DLC Pack (select paid DLC only previously available standalone)
I assume this is all preparation for the upcoming expansion, Ascendance, which was announced at Summer Game Fest last month. It's not due until next year, but I'm guessing this is all to encourage more people to hop in and give the main game a go before Ascendance changes things up.

All digital games should be cheaper anyway. That was the one argument for the digital future when it was essentially about profits and fleecing players more
This game is selling for £11.99 physical on Amazon right now. Clearly its sales have not gone to plan for such an anticipated game
@WhatTheFrog Digital games could've been cheaper, but retail stores cried that it's unfair
@Toilet_Goat Precisely the reason I don't want to see physical media go. Cheapest it's been digital is twice that and only for a couple of weeks. It's £64.99 right now digitally v £11.99 on disc

Or... perhaps... that was always an excuse. We will see for certain after Jan 2028 once all games are digital, will they be cheaper and drop in price sooner? Press X to doubt
Yeh there's some really good prices for PS5 games on Amazon UK atm so if your looking to stock up on some physicals...
Never played a monster hunter game before, but for £12 new physical I'm gonna take a punt on it.
@themightyant I do recall GAME in the UK crying foul of potential cheaper digital pricing back in the day, they were a significant player in the physical realm back then.
Though I also think the scenario was mostly used as a convenient excuse to pad the coffers of digital stores.
<Padmé> So with physical games being sunset we should se cheaper digital games soon, right? </Padmé>
@gordonps Sure bud, I'm willing to bet that at the end of 2028 digital games will be 10€ more expensive than what they're now.
@themightyant I never understood why the digital crowd cheers when a option disappears i think they don't understand that the prices will only go up with no other options.
@gordonps I always felt physical was holding digital prices up just to maintain parity. Digital shoulda been way cheaper.
@PaperAlien Depending on when you bought your PS5 you might have a copy of Monster Hunter World in your library. It was part of the PS5 Plus+ Collection and my introduction to the series, I couldn't stop playing. Absolutely brilliant game.
@themightyant exactly that. If digital games don’t get significantly cheaper then the whole argument turns out to be a farcical lie.
@Toilet_Goat You are a legend for pointing this out. I have just ordered it.
@GirlVersusGame ohhh I didn't even realise this or more than likely forgot lol thank you, I'll check it out for an hour and if I like it will grab the physical
@PaperAlien You'd have to be patient with it if it doesn't click at first. It took more than a year for me till it finally clicked, now I have almost 900hrs playtime on World, couldn't stop playing. And even after all that time I haven't seen half of what the game has to offer in terms of weapons and armour styles. Wilds takes it up another level with the animations and graphics.
People expect the world from game developers but refuse to pay them 🙄
@gordonps You can't be this naiive to believe this is the real reason. Lol.
Has Apple lowered the price of iPhone because it doesn't need to include a charger in the name of being environmentally friendly? Has any major company ever adjusted the price range of their products down when they cut down on costs?
