Gundam Rogue Orbit PS5 Gameplay

Over the weekend, a bunch of Gundam Rogue Orbit previews dropped from various YouTube channels, giving us our first proper look at the game in action.

Indeed, there's now loads of gameplay footage to pick through, and while I think Rogue Orbit has shown plenty of promise in its official trailers up until this point, these fresh videos have really sold me on the vision.

So in essence, Rogue Orbit plays a bit like Armored Core, but it's clearly less demanding than FromSoftware's more technical mecha series. The action's fast-paced and relatively simple on a surface level, but there's depth in things like combos and managing your boost gauge.

Coverage from PlayStation Access, Oroboro, and Globku is worth checking out if you're interested, as there's an abundance of uncut gameplay on offer.

Individually, most of the foes that you fight are no match for the all-powerful Gundam, but you'll need to make sure you aren't swarmed when they group up.

Boss battles are where your piloting skills will be better tested, with two different, hulking opponents showing up in the aforementioned coverage.

The important thing is that all of the previews I've watched say that the game's just damn good fun to play, and that the combat itself feels great, especially when you've found a primary melee weapon that clicks with your style.

However, this preview build didn't feature the game's customisation system, which lets you equip different Gundam frames. I assume that this side of the experience will be shown off in upcoming trailers and the like.

As a massive Gundam fan, I'm just happy that Rogue Orbit is shaping up to be good — potentially even great. It's been way too long since the franchise delivered a big budget outing in the video game space.
