'Tiny Team' Working on Next Horizon Single Player Game, Years Away from Release 1

If you were looking forward to the next full-length single player Horizon game from Dutch developer Guerrilla, sit tight.

As previously reported and reiterated in a Bloomberg article today, a “tiny team” within the Amsterdam studio is working on Aloy’s next adventure.

According to journalist Jason Schreier, citing people “familiar with the studio’s plans”, it remains “years away from completion”.

That means we may not be playing the third instalment in the main franchise until at least 2030 – and given the length of development timelines these days, that’s an optimistic estimate really.

The original game, Horizon Zero Dawn, came out in 2017. Its successor, Horizon Forbidden West, launched in 2022.

The “majority” of Guerrilla’s Amsterdam studio are said to be working on spin-off Horizon Hunters Gathering, which is now being scaled back and repurposed as a more traditional co-op action game following poor feedback from recent playtests.

There’s a possibility this project could yet be cancelled should it fail to impress executives by the end of the year.

It’s a sorry state of affairs for a studio that’s been one of PlayStation’s first-party pillars over the past decade or so.
