Devolver's Brilliant Roguelite Dopamine Factory, Ball X Pit, Is a Smash Hit at 2 Million Sales 1

Ball X Pit, the Breakout-esque arcade action roguelite from Devolver Digital, is not only a fantastic game — it's also a big hit.

The publisher launched the unusual title in October of last year, and since then, it's sold over 2 million copies, the company confirms in a new press release.

I don't know the budget for the game, but presumably that number means it's turned a very tidy profit.

For the uninitiated, Ball X Pit combines the ball-bouncing action of Breakout with elements from Vampire Survivors. You bounce balls to take out enemies as they march down the screen, and doing so generates XP.

As you level up, you become much stronger and gain access to more powerful balls. Between runs, you use gold you've gathered to build out a settlement, with every addition and upgrade steadily making you more powerful when you go back to the pit.

It's deliciously compelling and impeccably designed — definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.

Today also marks the release of the third and final free DLC, titled the Naturalist update.

It adds two new playable characters; the Ballbearer, who can't carry passive items at all but has double the usual number of ball slots, and the Hoary Hoarder, who can carry way more passives but only two balls.

On top of that, the DLC introduces 11 new ball types and five new passives.

While this is being billed as the final free update for Ball X Pit, Devolver teases there's "big, exciting" news still to come for the game.
