Braid, The Witness Dev's Massive New Puzzle Game Comes to PS5 in October 1

If you've been wondering what comes next from the team behind Braid and The Witness, the answer is a vast puzzle game named Order of the Sinking Star, which has been in the works for 10 years.

It was announced for PS5 just a few weeks ago, but publisher Arc Games and developer Thekla have now revealed the game's release date: 8th October, 2026.

The news comes alongside a new trailer, showcasing the variety of Sokoban-style puzzles the game contains:

Order of the Sinking Star has been in development for a very long time, but it seems the result is a game that's been absolutely jam-packed with puzzles of varying types.

The whole thing takes place across a sprawling world map you can explore freely, and the direction you head in dictates what kind of puzzles you'll come across. While many puzzlers are content exploring just one mechanic or set of rules, this game has several.

It gets even more intricate and interesting where different puzzle types converge on the map, leading to levels featuring multiple mechanics you need to think about in order to solve them.

It looks like, as you explore more of the world and solve more of the 1,000+ puzzles, the story and characters will come into focus too.

While Jonathan Blow and the Thekla team have spearheaded the project, many other notable puzzle designers have contributed to Order of the Sinking Star, such as Alan Hazelden (Skipping Stones to Lonely Homes, Mirror Isles), Sean Barrett (Promesst), Jonah Ostroff (Heroes of Sokoban), Zach Polansky (Enigmash), Patrick Traynor (Patrick's Parabox), and Marc ten Bosch (Miegakure).

Basically, if you're into this sort of puzzle game, it looks like this title will be pretty much essential.

Personally speaking, on first blush I find this less interesting than The Witness, but at the same time I'm super intrigued by how deep this game goes with all its different mechanics and rules that layer on top of each other. I really can't wait to play it myself and see if it can justify its huge size and scope.
