Order of the Sinking Star, the next game from The Witness studio Thekla, has been knocking about in development for some time now. With the plan to release the puzzle game this year, though, it's now finally been confirmed a PS5 version is planned.
The game is promising over 1,000 "interconnected, hand-crafted" puzzles from top-down and isometric perspectives, all of which is housed within multiple worlds. Many brain teasers seem to revolve around what happens to objects when you interact with them and have them react to things, and you'll have the freedom to explore and encounter puzzles you might not have the knowledge to solve yet.
Watch the video above for the full overview from Jonathon Blow, or have a read of a hands on report on the PlayStation Blog.
Order of the Sinking Star comes to PS5 later this year. Do you like the look of it? Tell us in the comments below.

Love the look of this! The Witness is a superb game so will be getting this for sure.
My kinda game for sure... although I have to say I did get kinda stuck in The Witness and never finished it (I refused to use a guide)
I did enjoy the puzzles in The Witness, though I didn’t have the patience to engage with the environmental puzzles. I also tend to like more of a narrative surrounding the puzzle elements. I’ll keep an eye out for reviews when it releases.
This looks like it might be pretty fun, but I don't know that I'll ever have time to commit to it
So.... many.... games, so little time.
In my opinion this has to do a lot to live up to The Witness, and I'm not sure the sheer quantity of puzzles flaunted here is the answer. I hope the game is more interesting than it appears. Underwhelmed by it so far, but hopefully it all comes together when I play it.
The Witness depressed me. Maybe I was going thru something at the time, but just thinking about playing it makes me sad. One of the least fun puzzle games I've encountered.
I am not a fan of Jonathan Blow...
So I will be passing on this...
To those that want to jump in, I want you to have fun....
Whatever you think of him Jonathan Blow is a genius in terms of game design and I want to like this.
But... I REALLY don't enjoy Sokoban (box pushing puzzles) which this game is built around.
Jonathan Blow is an absolute w*nkstain but unfortunately does make good games. This will probably be good too.
I just can't in good faith support it. When I learned about the overt awfulness of Blow, I have to pass. To anyone who does, have fun, but I can't.
Added this to my wishlist after watching the trailer.. subsequent removed it after reading the comments and doing a bit of searching. Sad times for anyone else connected to this game.
Will definitely get this. Although I've yet to finish The Witness, I got lost or stuck and gave up. I've come back years and tested later and I'm almost done I think.
Like the idea of this.
I can only agree with some of the comments on Jonathan Blow here. As fantastic as I thought The Witness was, I can't in good faith support another Jonathan Blow directed game anymore.
I loved The Witness, so I'll probably be all over this like a rash.
@Quintumply I remember having the same thought in the lead up to The Witness. "Man, just a bunch of panel puzzles? No way this'll be as awesome as Braid...."
@TheColorUrple Haha, well I was fascinated by The Witness from the moment I saw it, but I can't say the same for Sinking Star. We'll see!
This seems like even more of my type of game than Braid or The Witness, unfortunately, Jonathan Blow is trash so I won't be buying it.
Maybe I’m missing something (no one actually expounded on their comments), and I’m no expert on Jonathan Blow, but some of you sound quite immature. The overwhelming majority of games are made by people with liberal views, often outspoken ones, and those views often even enter the themes and subject matter of their games. You know who still buys and plays them, anyhow? Conservatives/Republicans. But you have a massive outlier in a dev that is one of the only ones with an opposing view, and you’re refusing to play his game, despite his brilliance as a game designer? And, at least to my knowledge, he doesn’t even inject his views into his games?
Of course you have a right to do whatever you want, but do you truly think it’s healthy to want everyone who makes games to think the exact same way you do?
@CP2 I don't think there's any data to suggest that the majority of people who make games are liberal.
But that's besides the point. I don't understand what would be unhealthy about deciding that I don't want to support someone who supports destructive leadership. Who I have screenshots of pushing lies and conspiracy theories about voter fraud in the U.S. elections. Why would I want to support that? And what could be unhealthy about not supporting that?
@themightyant the important part is that now we all know that YOU know what sokoban is.
@mlm043 I appreciate the heads up. Nope!
@CP2 There's nothing immature or unhealthy about not wanting to support someone who's very outspoken about values that are diametrically opposed to your own, in ways that you consider extremely harmful. We all draw our own lines somewhere. This is a topic that deserves better than someone trying to present it as wanting everyone to think exactly the same way as us.
