Control Resonant PS5

Normally somewhat modest in its marketing and claims, Remedy has suddenly started talking a big game with Control Resonant, as it nears a PS5 release in a packed September month.

The developer has confirmed the follow-up has amassed 1.5 million wishlists across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and it's now positioning it as a "must-have day one purchase" despite the competition surrounding it. Control Resonant will come out on the same day as Silent Hill: Townfall, a day before FC 27, and shortly after Marvel's Wolverine.

It was also right up against Onimusha: Way of the Sword, though Capcom has brought it forward to compete with The Blood of Dawnwalker instead. They're both out on the 3rd and 4th September 2026.

Despite the battle for attention, Remedy thinks "the distinctiveness and quality of the game will make it stand out," CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon continued. "Control Resonant will be available across all major platforms from day one and is priced attractively for an AAA title. Combined with the release window becoming slightly less crowded since our original reveal, we remain confident in our positioning."

Remedy is confident it has something good in Control Resonant, and based on three hours of play at a recent preview event, it has reason to be. I talked of it being a "greatest hits game" in my coverage in June, as the sequel appears to blend the cinematic direction of an Alan Wake experience with the action of the first Control.

"The next game feels like the best of the storytelling prowess and cinematic direction of Alan Wake 2 combined with the more experimental and agile combat and movement of Control. The two styles of game meet in Control Resonant, as intense melee battles break up FMV overlays and unorthodox settings — it's the greatest hits of what a Remedy game is in 2026."

Of course, Remedy is a business at the end of the day, and it wants you to buy its product next month. That product, though, is shaping up incredibly nicely based on what I've played.
