This one is going to be all over the place I reckon. I have not played it yet but the issues sound pretty prevalent, I will still give it a go at a later date when it gets a solid discount

people say it’s mediocre but I disagree, i really enjoyed the experience, although I wish the length was a little longer. I feel like the ability cooldown takes way too long, the performance is solid but I did encounter some glitches and bugs.

Other than that it’s a solid game, it’s not better than spider man trilogy I will say that

When I saw the reviews I was thinking of cancelling it, but I paid £55 so I’m glad I didn’t.

If I pay £70 for a 12- hour game, I would’ve cancel my order for sure

I like the character Wolverine and really like Insomniac, but I have yet to play this. It’s available fully on disc (Insomniac went out of their way to specifically tweet that), but the problem is we don’t know whether PS6 will have any way to play our physical libraries. It would be stupid to invest in the disc version if it won’t carry forward, and even stupider to pay real money to lease digital code on a temporary rental basis (digital licenses can be revoked at any time and without your consent).

At this point I may just wait for some hero with an eyepatch and peg leg to inevitably dump the code on PC and then play it that way 🤷‍♂️

My son rated it a dam good game 7.5 to 8.0
He told me, lower your expectations it’s not a top end Sony studio AAA, then you should enjoy it for what it is.

I chose 7, but would felt torn between 7 and 8. I would give the game a 7.5 if that was a choice. Loved the combat. Story was fine. Also, I felt like the game was just long enough. My one complaint is I hate when game companies make the final boss three stages long and 100 times harder than all other bosses. I just dropped it to easy because I don't want to spend three hours on one boss(especially with all the games coming out).

I voted 8 - if I had that option, I'd probably put it at 7.5 instead.
My only problem was that it didn't do many different things, which results in a bit of a lack of variety (and the bicycle sequences aren't very good so they don't help).
What it does though, it does really well.

@SuperSilverback 35 hours completions with platinum. Took me a while to find crates. I’m not a platinum person but I heard this was easy to get.

I'll eventually play it, but I don't think I'm plopping down full price for this bad boy. Hopefully it goes on sale around Black Friday for $50 or so. Seems like a good sweet spot for this game.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention - I still have no idea what people mean by "terrible 3rd act". I thought the story was consistently good and the spectacle of the final level was maybe my favourite part of the game.

I would have been angrier if I'd paid more than $32 for this. It took me 20 hours to platinum, 3 of those were just idle as I was yardworking/mowing, so really 17.

It sounds like this is a "wait until it drops on the sub" kind of game.

@Voltan I think people were annoyed about Logans...Origins? But its an Alternative Universe so im glad they put a different spin on it

The critics reaction has been overblown, so much that it’s put me off many of them in general. Not going to name them here. Gaming critics are so disconnected from the real world it’s unbelievable

I've played and enjoyed many 7 rated games before , but I saw enough things I don't like from this one to put it on indefinite hold. I'm probably the minority that was never super impressed with Spider-Man as well, and prefer Ratchet and Clank as an Insomniac franchise.

Gotta say for all the hate online I expected much worse. But I figured it's mostly people who haven't played it. It's not perfect but I'm having a great time. Combat is fun, especially when you unlock more powers. It's actually difficult too, I've died 20+ times. So I've no idea where they get press one button to finish the game. Maybe on the 'you can't die mode'. Graphically fantastic too and the story is good. It's a solid 8.5 for me.

Bought it and intially thought it was a 7 but having played more of it closer too a 6.5. Far from a bad game but not that good either. Just traded it and halo campaign evolved for Fable. Wolverine is just a tough sell in the big 2026 when so many other games offer more unique and special experiences. If you want a better linear action game play Pragmata. A better licensed game play 007. A better combat system go and play Onimusha or Control Resonant. On top of that a game this level of quality isn’t the worst thing but when it in a ball park cost at least $250 million that’s not good enough.

I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far. I love the fights against the Hand and the action sequences are top drawer. I can see how £70 for a short relatively linear game can feel a lot, but the production values are better than I've ever seen - you can see how much they've poured into the game. You could criticise it for being 'on rails' but I actually don't mind that once in a while and generally I'm having an absolute blast playing it. 8/10 no doubt.

This game is average.

For $300 million it should have been far better.

There are many better games that deserve your time and money more.

My PlayStation dashboard is showing 35 hours on 100% completion. It always seems to take me longer to complete games than the average person though.

"Marvel's Aggressively Fine"

To be honest, when all of the negative criticism came out about linearity I was super excited about a traditionally linear story game. But I'm having a hard time wanting to play it. I'm about 50% through it but I'm finding myself putting it down after 30 mins of playtime.

I played and beat Dawnwalker in the span of a week and went straight into this and its honestly pretty disappointing how bored I am with it. I just don't think the story is strong enough to pull me through the experience.

Voted for 6 as it’s the definition of not bad, but not good either, game feels so formulaic like some food with barely any taste.

Being extremely linear and faces looking weird aside, the combat which is the core of the game is extremely simple, little more than button masher and a few techniques that feel underwhelming but serviceable I guess, what truly disappointed me is the story, not only is it so predictable, the writing is off, some chapters are such a snore fest, pacing is all over the place, the last act of the game (after Japan) went completely off rails and I lost confidence in Insomniac to deliver on a good story for the X-Men, I don’t know what’s happening at the studio but the writing fell off a cliff compared to Spider-Man (2018).

I gave it a 7, but its probably somewhere between a 7 and 8, so I rounded down.
Graphically its excellent and the story is good. They've captured the essence of the comic book Wolverine, which im happy with. Other character designs are very good too.
I definitely liked it but there are also huge missed opportunities with it too. Its like a very watered down version of the Arkham games, which are the gold standard.
Im not disappointed, I knew what I was getting when I bought it.

6 for me. I found it too repetitive and just wanted to get it finished so I could move onto something else.

Playing felt like an actual chore, each combat encounter basically has a single solution, shield guy hold down Square because cooldown aside nothing else is doing anything, big guy is parry parry dodge the red and now I get to attack. Player expression and freedom of approach is almost non-existent. The whole thing came alive when I threw the difficulty all the way down and just ran around chopping guys apart.

So much of it feels like a Triple A checklist without putting all that much thought or effort into narrative explanations, the XP, the levels, the utterly bland skill unlocks. Of course other games are guilty of lots of the same problems but few of them are so egregious and I absolutely do not think its that much of an ask to expect more from this studio and this level of game.

It does look beautiful though, can't fault that at all.

Edit : Its wild seeing everyone getting the Platinum when I can't be arsed putting the mildest amount of effort into looking for any of the collectables. I felt no push to get the best scores on a single one of the nightmare door things if I did not get it on the first attempt.

I would love to give it a score but it will be a long while before I play this. To many games with higher priority to play than Wolverine.

I was lucky enough to be on a week off when it released and I had a great time with it over a three-day period.

Is it perfect? No

Is it a bit overly linear? Yes

Is it a little bit short? Yes

Is it a ****-ton of fun? A resounding Yes!

8.5 outta 10.
