Lumines Remastered, the 2018 re-release of a stone cold PSP classic, has now come to mobile devices.
Available now for both iOS and Android, the game is free-to-start, and you can unlock the full thing for $7.99/£7.99 ($9.99/£9.99 after the launch discount).
The free trial grants you access to the Basic Challenge mode, the tutorial, and the 60-second Time Attack.
The port is co-developed by mobile studio Sound Games and original creator Enhance. It's a fully featured port of the console version, with all modes, stages, and music included.
You can play the tutorial, a chunk of Basic Challenge mode, and the 60-second Time Attack for free, while everything else is behind the paywall.
Lumines is a music-based falling block puzzle game originally made for the PSP, designed by Tetsuya Mizuguchi of Rez and Space Channel 5 fame. In my opinion, it's up there with Tetris as one of the great arcade puzzlers.
I've had a very quick go with the mobile version, and while using physical buttons is preferable, the touch controls are serviceable.
There are three options; the default, which doesn't feel intuitive if you're used to how Lumines plays elsewhere, a classic control scheme which feels closer, and a gesture-based scheme, which felt more natural to me on a touch screen.
While the game plays perfectly well on PS4, it feels right to have the original Lumines accessible in your pocket.
In other news, the Lumines Remastered soundtrack is available to stream/purchase now for the first time. It's out on all the services you'd expect, which you can see through the link.

What is that... thing, in the background?
Love lumines, got the platinum for the remaster and arise.
Always could play it on mobile. Its called PPSSPP.
@XinGViruS I think that is a Zeiss planetarium projector. Well, probably not branded, but the exact same shape anyway.
Platinumed this on ps4 earlier this year, fantastic, brilliantly simple game. Not sure if mobile and touch controls would make it easier or harder, depends how well they are implemented.
Played quite a bit on the Vita, I enjoyed it great music but it was pretty tough in the later levels! Definitely suits being a mobile game just like Tetris although Tetris Effect in VR was next level, I think there is a VR Lumines but never tried it.
