I really need to catch up on Deltarune, because its unorthodox release rollout has somewhat passed me by.

Take the announcement of Chapter 5 – it’s racking up views on Nintendo’s YouTube channel almost as fast as Ocarina of Time, despite not really showing anything at all.

Dev Toby Fox says that’s on purpose.

“I want to surprise people playing the Chapter for the first time, so I avoided showing the most exciting moments,” he explained. “Which is the opposite of what you should do in a trailer…”

Fair enough. So what will Chapter 5 be like?

“In Chapter 4, we saw dark clouds on the horizon,” Fox continued. “That’s why, let’s not look there for now. Let’s turn around and watch the sun, before it goes down completely. Let’s smile again. Let’s have one more fun adventure, okay?”

If you already own DELTARUNE, then you’ll be able to download and play Chapter 5 in its entirety for free when it releases on 24th June.

Meanwhile, Fox says development on Chapter 6 is going well, and implied that some of his team may start working on Chapter 7 before the end of the year. That doesn’t necessarily mean Chapter 6 will deploy in 2026, though.

Are you a fan of DELTARUNE at all? What do you make of the somewhat strange way this is being released? Let us know below.
