Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag Blackbeard

The sheer number of improvements Ubisoft is promising for Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced is impressive — but there's one big addition in particular that's got me excited to relive Edward's seafaring adventure.

In the original game, Blackbeard was something of a mentor to Edward — a crazy old pirate who had long forged a legacy for himself by the time he's introduced in the story. I think he stole the show in just about every cutscene that he appeared in.

But there just wasn't enough of him, to the point where his lack of overall screen time became a lasting criticism of the otherwise widely beloved PS4 and PS3 title.

However, it sounds like Blackbeard fans are in for a treat with Resynced. In a deep dive developer blog, Ubisoft confirms that the man himself will feature in a brand new, endgame set of missions.

Named 'A World Without Gold' — a clear reference to what is arguably Blackbeard's most memorable line, "in a world without gold, we might have been heroes" — this whole new chapter is spread across eight quests.

"You’ll experience Blackbeard’s expanded story which unlocks at the start of the final sequence in the game," reads the blog.

It's become very clear that Ubisoft aims to expand Black Flag's narrative, which could, at times, feel a little undercooked in the original game. A bunch of new scenes should pave the way.

Indeed, Resynced is promising better insight into key characters across the board — and it's even introducing a few new ones, each with their own storylines.
