Game of the Month July 2026

Update []: In what was a big battle between two very high profile remakes, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced has walked away victorious in our official Game of the Month poll.

Ubisoft's ground-up revival actually managed to fend off Halo: Campaign Evolved rather handily in the end, securing more votes than Master Chief and every other contender combined.

A total of 983 votes were cast across ten PS5 titles, but nothing could touch what is arguably gaming's greatest pirate simulator.

Here are the top five PS5 games of July 2026 according to readers of Push Square:

  1. Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced - 526 votes (54%)
  2. Halo: Campaign Evolved - 219 votes (22%)
  3. Denshattack - 97 votes (10%)
  4. Granblue Fantasy: Relink - Endless Ragnarok - 69 votes (7%)
  5. Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game - 16 votes (2%)

Black Flag Resynced always had huge potential; after all, it's based on one of the most beloved instalments in the entire Assassin's Creed franchise.

Ubisoft went out of its way to rework so much of the game, overhauling gameplay systems like the combat, and various stealth functions. Even the parkour got a rethink, allowing for some impressively agile traversal.

"It’s as you remember it, except better, bigger, and markedly flashier in all the right ways," is what Liam wrote in his Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced PS5 review. The remake earned a very respectable 8/10.

Congrats to Edward Kenway, who's claimed yet another treasure. Hopefully there's room for all of this appreciation on the Jackdaw.

Original Story: After what was a disgustingly dry June for new game releases on PS5, July has thankfully given us a bit more to work it.

In particular, it was two high profile remakes that grabbed most of the month's headlines.

Both Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced and Halo: Campaign Evolved were met with impressive review scores and a lot of love from players. I can see this Game of the Month vote being pretty close.

Funnily enough, another of July's most well-received titles is also a kind of revival. Granblue Fantasy: Relink - Endless Ragnarok expands Cygames' action RPG in a lot of great ways — and I'm actually a bit sad that I didn't have time to review it here on the site.

Other games worthy of your consideration include the colourful and crazy Denschattack, the somewhat bare-bones but lovingly crafted Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, and the brutal but so satisfying Kusan: City of Wolves.

But before you cast your vote, let's take a moment to recall our previous Game of the Month winners from across 2026 so far...
