Game of the Month: Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced (July 2026)

Two great remasters of old games, a bunch of crap, and one smaller scale uniquely interesting game. That one got my vote.

Well I knew AC black flag was going to get the most votes and it does look very good but for me it's Halo campaign evolved. Is it the best remake or remaster? No not really but it captures the essence of the original perfectly for me. All the furore about the "woke women" is just ridiculous and I think a lot of people need to get over it as it really is quite silly and it dosnt detract from the core game play at all. I'm having a blast from the past...

Halo is the only one I've played this month out of those, so I suppose it's both the best and the worst.

Black Flag is the only one from the list I've played so voted for that really enjoying being a pirate again.

I'm gonna find out in a couple of years when they come onto ps extra. 😂

Black Flag Resynced obviously. Other than Halo never heard of the rest.

My vote is going to Denshattack, that game is such a fun indie title, I greatly enjoyed my playthrough.

Denshattack gets my vote, the most bonkers game i've played in ages. Been playing it for just over 30 hours and am 2 trophy's away from the platinum.

Have completed both Black Flag and Halo, and my vote goes to Black Flag

It blows my mind how MS managed to botch the Halo remake which should have just been a slam dunk. Even Ubisoft figured out how to do a remake the right way.

And again, the five-course burger menu AC wins. Gourmets prefer other meals.

My friends have been bullying me to get Granblue, so I finally picked this up on disc. If it’s good, I may double dip on Switch 2 since my PS Plus runs out in January or February.

Denshattack. I was a SEGA kid back in the day, so it was cool to get something fresh like that.

This was my first time playing black flag and I really liked what I played and got my monies worth. But like most ubi games i played I just stopped playing for whatever reason and really have zero interest in going back.

AC winning the best game is McDonald's winning the best restaurant.

Only played one and that's Echoes of Aincrad so reluctantly that gets my vote. It's an OK game but it just fall flat in the end and is very repetitive, dropped it as soon as Splatoon Raiders came out.

In all seriousness, it was a slow one when it's headlined by two remakes.

Halo of course.
Although I like Master Chief Collection much much more.

Endless Ragnarok should win for those who like loot games. Finished the OG on 23 hours, now I’m 101 hours in and probably another 200-300 hours to go, loving every minute.

Remake culture needs to die unless devs start remaking games that could actually do with a remake - looking your way DMC2...

I try my hardest to avoid “meme votes”, but you can’t fault me for voting halo just out of morbid curiosity to see how it does.
If halo wasn’t there, I’d vote disgaea, the series is too underloved D:

Black Flag is a fantastic remake. I don't really understand why people get so worked up about whether a remake or remaster should exist. If you don't want to play it, don't buy it. Pretty simple stuff.

If you're also worked up about devs losing their jobs, maybe you should be championing remakes and remasters. It gives regular devs something to work on while the creatives cook up the next original idea.

@Northern_munkey Been playing this all weekend and really enjoying it. Haven’t played Halo in twelve years, and it’s kind of funny in that the muscle memory is still there for the old control scheme, even though it’s been updated for Campaign Evolved. The graphics are stunning, and the shooting feels great. Will play the new missions once I’ve finished strolling down memory lane.

Halo for me, never played it before so I have no nostalgia for any of it and I am having a blast, love the music too.
Would like to see the more modern ones come over and see how it has 'evolved' over the years but I suspect that might not happen now which is a shame as they would be a day 1 given how much fun I am having with Campaign Evolved.

@somnambulance - To be fair, there are some differences between the two: Resynched is closer to a remake than TLOU remastered (I’m assuming you’re referring to that, and not the “The Last of Us Part One” remake), it’s the only re-release the game has had (unlike TLoU, which got a remaster, a remake, and a TV adaptation), and unlike TLoU, it does make one significant change from the original (the removal of the modern day sections), so I can see this being received a bit better.
Also, the time difference between ACIV and Resynched is around 13 years, whereas the two re-releases for TLoU are 1 and 9 years respectively, so you could also argue it’s not quite as bad in that respect.

Honestly, I don’t really have a stake here, as I haven’t played a single one of these entries yet (might change that later though) but I ended up giving a vote to the new Avatar fighting game, as at least that’s a new game that I’ve been hearing some good things about.

Both Black Flag and Halo take the prize. HOWEVER, they are clearly "modernised" to the degree it lessens their original character. Despite this, they look great. They play great. I'm having fun playing them.

Although Halo Studios has for some reason decided to change the original artists intent with the NPCs (just an odd choice and clearly trying to appease modern consensus to appear "with it" - although a minor gripe for me).

Black Flag on the other hand has suffered due to the current stock of writers at Ubisoft. Edward is a PIRATE. His original character, while overall morally "good" at heart, had drawbacks with his greed and lust for fame. The new quests basically paint him as a bland, purely altruistic person, with none of the flaws that made him a relatable human and convincing pirate who develops his character throughout the game.

Minor niggles really. But it's frustrating that most modern games seem to be less genuine/ true to to the imperfections of life and also messing with the OG Dev's intentions
