Is Atlus really cooking up some kind of Persona and Persona 2 re-release? Some fans are becoming more and more convinced that it's happening.
A couple of weeks back, series enthusiasts — including ourselves — caught on to a new line of merchandise, suspiciously focused on the first two Persona titles.
Sold through Amazon, these items feature never-before-seen naming conventions; Persona 1 stuff is called 'Origins', and Persona 2 merch is tagged 'Duality'. Could these names hint at yet-to-be-announced remasters?
And now, we've got Atlus uploading — or at least re-uploading — the official Persona 1 soundtrack. Granted, this isn't quite as exciting as the aforementioned merch, but it's been enough to raise questions amongst franchise faithful.
Most notably, a preview video for said soundtrack has been re-added to the developer's YouTube channel. In the video's description, Atlus notes that this is a "re-upload due to video issues" — but then it obviously coincides with the very recent launch of the same soundtrack on music streaming services, like Spotify.
In truth, we don't think there's a whole lot to read into here — but it's the timing that makes the whole thing interesting. Persona 1 merch and a soundtrack re-release in the space of two weeks or so? It's easy to see why people would jump to conclusions.
Just to reiterate, this year marks the 30th anniversary of Persona, and Atlus has already promised multiple "updates" on the series.
