NetherRealm Studios, the team behind the massively popular Mortal Kombat series, may be developing a sequel to its other fighting game franchise.
That's according to a recent report from MP1st, which claims that Injustice 3 is currently in development at the studio.
Per the report, an unnamed artist working at WB Games shared the many titles they've contributed to on their resume, and it seems they accidentally included Injustice 3 among them. An image in the report appears to show the game's name clearly mentioned.
NetherRealm's last game was Mortal Kombat 1, which launched back in 2023, and while the team has been working on updates and DLC in the meantime, you have to presume work has begun on the next game from the studio.
The MP1st report also mentions comments from DC Studios CEO James Gunn; he spoke in 2025 about meeting with NetherRealm (as well as Rocksteady Studios) about DC-related games and collaborating on characters and story.
Injustice hasn't been seen since the launch of Injustice 2 in 2017, despite very positive reviews.
Obviously this isn't outright confirmation of Injustice 3, but it does seem as though the stars are aligning somewhat.

Man I hope so. I'm definitely ready for some more Injustice!!!
I really liked the Injustice games. The DC Universe IP is what really drew me in, as I’m not a fan of fighters usually. I wouldn’t mind a third.
Got attacked in the reddit when I told people hoping its going to be marvel vs dc that's not happening with tokon coming out.lol
Am I the only one who would love a remaster or remake of shaolin monks?? I personally had enough of the 2d fighting games.
About time! Going from Injustice 2 to any of the following MK games was...rough.
Great news. I like Mortal Kombat, but Injustice is what really drew me to their games in the first place. Easily my favourite 2D fighting game series, followed by Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ
@Ricksta They wouldn’t do that.. it’d make too much money unlike that crap MK1 they released last.. I’ve been dreaming of SM2 for years as an MK lover and RPG lover..
Strong agree that 2D fighting games are getting old.. I’m 36 and I’ve seen/played them all.. Shaolin Monks 2 would be a breath of fresh air
Hard disagree though with a remake.. all these companies are being lazy and need to come up with fresh ideas for their IPs.. every single company now just splashes a new coat of paint on an old ass game and charges $70 for it
Oh please be true. The Injustice games were awesome.
I'm absolutely adamant that they were making Injustice 3 but WB made them make MK1 instead. It would make sense with that game's DLC being comic book themed.
I'd like to see Supergirl being voiced by Erica Lindbeck.
Let's see if it's injustice injustice 2 Is a phenomenal game.word up son
I think they need a break from MK.
Maybe they could try a new IP fighting game instead?
NB I think it probably will be Injustice 3 next though as there have been rumours for around a year now.
Hopefully this time they include the power disparity between the characters as a main mechanic similar to Capcom V SNK's Ratio system. The novelty of watching robin beatdown on superman has long since worn off.
Personally don’t really care for DC in general, but good for those who enjoy these games
Considering how much time has passed since Injustice 2 in the DC movie universe going from Synder to Gunn a could be a new game with the same but different characters.
It's been a while since I've played either of them but I don't recall John Cena's Peacemaker, who probably has a following now after 2 seasons of the show. New Superman and his clone. Jason Momoa's Lobo is looking pretty good in the Supergirl trailers. The Black Adam movie wasn't great but it wasn't the Shazam movies either. Blue Beetle was so good DC basically forgot he exists so I wouldn't expect him in the fame but maybe as dlc later. His geandmother should be an assist character.😂
So yeah, I'm in. I want to see Nathan Filkiins really bad Green Latern haircut. 🤣
The first game had an amazing story, the second one was extremely convoluted - which is on par for the Mortal Kombat reboot that started in 2011. I really hope they nail the story but I have absolutely no doubt the graphics will be phenomenal, gameplay tight, and the characters will be depicted in an awesome way.
NRS actually has some of the best superhero and supervillain designs in all media. They look awesome.. the developers are obviously huge fans of comics. That being said, the customization in MK1 was horrendous and I didn't think they'd go backwards so who knows
Both inkustice games were amazing. But storywise, are there even any good characters left (alive)?
Anyway this is a day 1 buy of course
Not a big fighting game fan but I enjoyed a lot the stories of 1 & 2 so I'm definitely excited if they make a third one.
Although, how would that work story wise? So many of them died 💔 😭
Little of topic but It'd be cool if DC made a Dceased game, playing as different heroes against a hoard of zombies/vampires would be cool.
Injustice was fun, but only hit hard if you are a die hard DC fan, which I am not. I just know of some of their heroes and villains.
I would be more excited for a new SoulCalibur.
I just can't see how it'll succeed. It's been nearly 10 years since Injustice 2 which was a solid, if not spectacular seller. MK1 tanked so they'll need to smash it out of the park to justify their continued existence to Paramount, who will be looking for some kind of return on the $111 billion they just dropped. PM is allegedly already looking at moving away from developing and publishing and into exclusively licensing their IPs as it is. On top of that superhero fatigue is real.
I like Injustice more then MK sorry but i do.
It's WB, so the most fascinating thing about this will be how they ruin it.
@AgentMantis So, MK1 sold 8 million...
@WolfyTn Funny because MK1 is one of the biggest fighting game sellers this gen even more then SF6 and T8.
@AgentMantis MK1 didn't tank it sold very well more so then both SF6 and T8. What stopped the support for MK1 was low sales for its pricey story expansion.
I hope it's a lot more MK11 and a lot less MK1. I played the crap out of MK11 but MK1, I pretty much dipped out after the story mode. Then I eventually played the DLC before dipping out again. I just didn't like it as much. I really enjoyed the first two Injustice games, so fingers crossed I dig a new one.
