Update []: A native PS5 version of Mafia 3: Definitive Edition with 60fps gameplay can be downloaded today, and it’s free if you own an existing copy of the game or the recently released Omerta Collection.

The game has a new set of Trophies to unlock, as revealed via PSN Profiles.

The product listing on the PS Store reveals:

“Mafia 3: Definitive Edition is now available on PS5, with 60fps gameplay and technical improvements.”

If you don’t already own a copy of Lincoln Clay’s bloody adventure, then it’s currently 80% off on the PS Store, and can be yours for as little as $5.99/£5.00. I’d say the game’s well worth that.

A native PS5 version of Mafia 2: Definitive Edition was also recently rated by the ESRB, but it looks like that’s not quite ready for primetime just yet.

Original Story: Earlier this year, 2K Games released an upgraded version of the excellent Mafia: Definitive Edition, designed to take full advantage of the PS5 hardware at 60fps with various other visual and performance improvements.

Now it looks like both Mafia 2: Definitive Edition and Mafia 3: Definitive Edition aren’t far behind.

Eagle-eyed fans on Reddit noticed that US ratings board ESRB has submitted new PS5 listings for both games, suggesting the new clients could release imminently. It’s likely these will be free upgrades for existing owners, and will be bundled into the recently released Omerta Collection.

I have a soft spot for both of these games – and the franchise in general – as I thought Mafia 2 was a true gem on the PS3, despite its sometimes subpar performance.

And while I know fans have issues with the structure of Mafia 3, I think it’s narratively fantastic and the gunplay is really weighty and brutal.

In select countries earlier this week, Sony accidentally made Lincoln Clay’s late-60s adventure free to claim, but it looks like those copies are already being revoked and removed from players’ libraries. Unlucky.

Nevertheless, both games are locked to 30fps when played on the PS5, so it’d be great to see the frame rates unlocked for these planned ports.

I imagine an official announcement won’t be too far away.
