Sony has released another firmware update for the PS Portal, only two weeks after the previous one. It's worth noting because updates like this are rarely so close together.

The portable streaming device is now up to system software version 7.3.0, with the update itself being rolled out in phases.

So, what does this one do? Here are the patch notes:

  • You can turn 3D audio on or off while playing a game. Go to Settings > System > 3D Audio.
  • We've updated the search experience. You can now:
    • See results in real time as you type.
    • Scan a QR code to continue your search in PlayStation Store on PlayStation App or in a web browser.
  • We've improved system software performance and stability.
  • We've improved the messages and usability on some screens.

The last update was released a couple of weeks ago, aiming to help preserve the device's battery by adding an optional charge limit of 80%.

It's interesting to see the PS Portal get this sort of attention, especially in light of recent evidence that a new iteration of the accessory is coming soon.

Previously, there have been rumours of a PS Portal rocking an OLED screen, but that has yet to surface.

Whatever Sony's got cooking, owners of the streaming device are being well looked after.
