MindsEye Going Off the Deep End with In-Game Mission Revealing 'Evidence' of 'Sabotage' 1

Build a Rocket Boy, the team behind the poorly received action game MindsEye, has said it intends to introduce a new mission that contains evidence supporting claims it was sabotaged.

This comes from CEO Mark Gerhard, who has mentioned on more than one occasion his belief that internal and external bad actors were the lead cause behind the game's downfall.

It's something he's taking very seriously, with authorities in both the US and the UK investigating the situation. Gerhard claims the team has "strong evidence" of "corporate sabotage".

Speaking in an interview with GamesBeat, he again talks about a "concerted effort" from some people "with their hands on the scale" who "deliberately tried to shape a negative narrative", robbing the game of a "fair chance".

"It didn’t get to find its community. It didn’t get a chance to be iterated on, as would be typical with these things," Gerhard says.

Now the studio has separated from MindsEye's publisher, IO Interactive, it seems it's making attempts to right the ship. It's "continuing to invest" in the game to improve it, and that includes an upcoming in-game mission called Blacklist, which will feature a new female playable character.

"We’re also using that to share some of the evidence of the sabotage with the community," Gerhard says.

This lines up with previous comments from the CEO. "Let's have some fun with it," he's said. "Let's tell the community the story before it even plays out in court. So, you know, I think this is not us being the victim."

It will be fascinating to see how this all plays out. What are your thoughts on this? Tell us in the comments section below.
