Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gets a Sick Gameplay Trailer, But Still No Release Date

Onimusha: Way of the Sword has looked super promising for so long now, but this newest gameplay-filled trailer might just be its best showing yet.

The video's fairly short, but it features plenty of fresh footage from Capcom's upcoming action title. New enemies, weapons, environments, characters, and boss battles make an appearance.

But as our headline makes clear, we're still waiting on that all-important release date. The game remains on track for a 2026 launch — the window's confirmed yet again at the end of this trailer — but that's all we're getting for now.

Having said that, it sounds like Capcom's got something up its sleeve. The publisher says that "more information will be shared in the coming days".

That's got to be the release date, hasn't it? What else could Capcom possibly be hinting at? We're left wondering why such an announcement wasn't part of this latest look, though.

Im sure I remember a while back DF discussing a number of games Capcom had shown them, and that this was the one that they didn't think was close enough technically, particularly base PS5 - maybe it's a good thing that they are not rushing it, as for me it's probably the game from them I'm most interested in.

Damn, I heard souls like twice, parry once, this is not looking good. Hopefully I'm wrong, I do not want this to be a souls like anything. I was really excited for this until I heard the buzz words from hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks good. Except for the enemies just standing there while you fight one. Maybe set to easy?

@Propaperpusher Onimusha series has parry mechanic called Issen since the 1st game long before any souls game have parry.

I'm really interested in this. I never played the older Onimusha games, and this one looks to have the kind of combat that I enjoy the most. I also appreciate the campy aspect to the characterisation, the goofy expressions, etc. It's a fun change from the overly serious nature of so many action games.

Looks pretty good but is the voice AI or is it me? Sounds like the voice that is going over the features is AI generated or maybe my ears are deceiving me.

It's sadly not doing much for me. I think I find there's just so many hack and slash games in that kind of setting now that I need it to stand out more. But I hope for those that I have wanted Onimusha to return will enjoy it.

@datamonkey For this year, Sony 1st party actually has more output than Capcom.

Capcom will release 4 new games; 1 already out (REquiem) and 3 left to go (Pragmata, Onimusha, and MH Stories 3).

Sony will release 5 new games; 2 already out (Sons of Sparta & Marathon) and 3 left to go (Saros, MLB The Show 26, and Wolverine). Count it 6 if we include Ghost of Yotei: Legend which is a standalone expansion.
