Sonic the Hedgehog 4 -- as in the movie, not the game — has officially kicked off filming.
The news was shared by director Jeff Fowler, who has been at the helm of all four films.
He's seen pictured below, with Amy Rose's signature hammer over his shoulder. She's due to make her proper debut in the sequel, which will hit theatres in about a year's time — March 2027.
If you missed it, the character was recently cast, with Kristen Bell providing her voice for the part.
That's not the only casting news doing the rounds, however; a recent report seemingly has the scoop on another new addition to the ensemble.
In an issue of The InSneider (paywalled), movie reporter Jeff Sneider claims that Sir Ben Kingsley has a part in Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
While it's not been made known who he's playing, the prolific actor will play a "key role" in the film, according to the report.
With about 12 months until the film is out, there's plenty of time for trailers and new details to emerge. Are you excited for the fourth Sonic flick? Tell us in the comments section below.

Ben Kingsley will play the part of Big the Cat.
I’m calling it - he’s an actor standing in for Robotnik for 3/4s of the movie, only for Jim Carrey to return and Kingsley to be forgotten.
Hopefully playing Don Logan.

Ben Kingsly confirmed to be playing Professor Pickles, gonna call it here
After the epic Sonic 3 I can't wait for more plus sonic should won movie of the year I smell some Disney involved on that matter they a still pissed after the lion king live action got destroyed by sonic
Either a Darker Eggman or The original Metal Sonic and not minions.
I think I'm fairly good at separating the artist from the art, but Ben Kingsley is such an obnoxious ***** that he almost ruins every film he's in for me. It's a shame because Sexy Beast is one of my all time favourites. Hopefully here he's just voicing an animated character so his presence is easier to tune out.
I hope he's going to be playing Sonic. He's a great actor!
