Update []: Well, this is curious, isn’t it? Sony has removed the trailer for Ebola Village from its official YouTube channel.
The game’s PS Store page remains live with a release date of 23rd January touted, so it looks like the title is still going to come out.
But clearly the platform holder no longer wanted to host this release’s footage on its account.
Original Story: With the official PlayStation YouTube channel just emerging from its festive slumber, the focus on games like Ebola Village are amplified.
And the platform holder is getting roasted for promoting this Resident Evil knock-off, which clearly draws inspiration from the likes of Resident Evil Village, among others.
The game – due out on PS5 and PS4 from 23rd January – is clearly wearing its inspiration on its sleeve, as even its logo appears to be inspired by Capcom’s iconic franchise.

However, here’s how dev Axyos – based in Georgia – describes it:
“A classic horror inspired by the original survival games of the 90s, Ebola Village is a modern take on a first-person adventure where the main character, Maria, investigates a series of mysterious events. While sitting in her apartment and watching her favourite TV series, the broadcast is suddenly interrupted by a live report about a biological threat. Concerned for her family, Maria travels to a remote village to visit her mother and her ex-husband, Ruslan… and soon, terrible things begin to happen. Uncover the village’s dark past, piece together its intricate history, and discover who is truly behind the events unfolding there. A carefully crafted setting and oppressive atmosphere fully immerse the player in the horror of an isolated rural settlement.”
Many of the comments are criticising Sony for promoting this game, although as we understand it publishers pay to have their trailers spotlighted on the organisation’s official YouTube channel. It has almost 17 million subscribers, after all.
“What next?” one user wrote. “COVID City?” Another added: “Tuberculosis Town next.”
The PS Store has come under increasing scrutiny of late for the sheer amount of shovelware being published on it, with one indie dev accusing the upcoming Ghostly Whiskers of stealing its idea just this week.
We don’t really know what the solution is here: curation seems like the natural conclusion, but that risks filtering out games you may actually want to play.
Personally we think discoverability needs to be better: if the PS Store can ensure you’re always seeing the most important stuff, and less of the crap published every day, then that should reduce most of the issues here.
