Look, you may very well own a PS5 for those graphically intensive, AAA experiences – but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a good throwback platformer from time-to-time.

Shovel Knight proved eons ago that there’s always an appetite for a good 8-bit adventure, and Lovish looks like it may be worth your attention.

Dropping on 5th February from dev LABS Works, this looks like a lot of fun.

For starters, the story seems like it’s going to subvert expectations, as while your goal appears to be to “rescue” Princess Tsuna from the evil Devil Lord, we get the sneaking suspicion protagonist Sir Solomon’s intentions aren’t as pure as they’re made out to be.

One neat trick here is that after each platforming screen, you’ll have to deal with a random event, which will include anything from turn-based battles to minigames. Your outcome in these will determine whether you get to progress, earn items, or even which path through the campaign you take.

Obviously, February is a very busy month for new releases, but this looks like a very fun palate cleanser. It’ll cost just $14.99 at launch, so may be worth picking up alongside the month’s bigger titles, like Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined and Nioh 3.
