We Didn't Have a New Carmageddon on Our 2026 PS5 Bingo Card 1

Oh wow, we didn’t expect to see a new Carmageddon game get announced before Christmas.

Obviously, the controversial vehicular combat franchise has a long history, with the second game in particular proving somewhat popular on the PS1, despite attracting dreadful reviews.

The franchise got a bit of a soft reboot on the PS4 with Carmageddon: Max Damage (which was rubbish), but the newly announced Carmageddon: Rogue Shift genuinely looks decent.

The big twist this time is its roguelite format: each run will be slightly different, as you work your way through an increasingly difficult campaign, augmenting your car with various perks and upgrades.

If you fail to reach the finish line, a new driver will get behind the wheel, and you’ll be able to invest in permanent upgrades to help you progress further next time.

The full game will have over 15 upgradeable vehicles, 13 weapon classes, and more than 80 different perks. There’ll also be a day/night cycle, dynamic weather, and a state-of-the-art damage model to help you better appreciate each attack and impact.

We think some will lament the change in tone and style here, but honestly given how bad most Carmageddon games have been, we’re down for a slightly different take on the series.

Pre-orders are already live on the PS Store ahead of the racer’s 6th February release date, with a 10% discount available for PS Plus subscribers. The title will retail for $39.99/£32.99.
