Arcade Archives, the industrious preservation initiative from Japanese dev Hamster, has crowned its 500th release: it’s Taito’s iconic 1978 effort Space Invaders. And it’s out now on PS5 and PS4, this Christmas Day.
While it’s perhaps not the most exciting milestone release, it needs no real introduction. Space Invaders is up there with Super Mario, Pac-Man, and Tetris – it’s a game everyone knows.
Here it’s presented in both its classic black-and-white and coloured iterations, and costs $7.99/£5.79 on the PS4 and $9.99/£7.39 on the PS5.

The new-gen version is more expensive because it’s part of the Arcade Archives 2 line, which includes some additional features, such as a Time Attack Mode. There’s also a Platinum Trophy in the PS5 version.
