With awards season just a few weeks away, Sony's official PlayStation Blog has opened all of its Game of the Year 2025 deliberations to the public, allowing PS5, PS4 fans to vote for their favourite titles released this year.
Voting across 19 categories is live now until midnight on Tuesday, 9th December, giving you a full week to consider your picks and then submit them. You can do so through the link, with the following categories available:
- Best New Character
- Best Story
- Best Graphical Showcase
- Best Art Direction
- Best Audio Design
- Best Soundtrack
- Best Accessibility Features
- Best Use of DualSense
- Best Rerelease (Remaster)
- Best Multiplayer Experience
- Best Ongoing Game
- Best Expansion
- Best Sports Game
- Best Independent Game
- Best PSVR2 Game
- Best PS4 Game
- Best PS5 Game
- Studio of the Year
- Most Anticipated Game of 2026 and Beyond
While each category does list a handful of titles to vote for, there's also the option to input your own entry, even if it's not present. Therefore, there isn't really a definitive list of nominees; PlayStation is accepting anything. The results will be revealed in a few weeks, with the winners receiving the same accolades as our category GOTY articles: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum Trophies.
Of course, our own Game of the Year deliberations will begin around Christmas time, and the likes of Ghost of Yotei and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 have already picked up a few awards. We suspect they shall be strong contenders for other outlets and the PlayStation Blog awards, too.
What are you voting for? Let us know in the comments below.

I've cast my votes!
@themightyant
Yes, why no GTA? And why no Embark for studio?
For GTA: Maybe only games with some level of console exclusivity are included. Or they just know that no PS Studios game has any chance of winning if GTA is selectable.
They did Gustave dirty.
Some of the ommisions are egregious and designed to favour votes for certain games. No GTA in most anticipated is lunacy, and designed to make it seem like a level playing field, when it isn't.
No Warhorse Studios in the studio of the year list, one of the few studios to release a game that worked with PSSR and was well optimised on all versions from day 1. Who kept patching the game throughout the year, released 3 DLC's in the year, and are just generally awesome devs who have taken their obscure medieval sim into the mainstream. But yeah, no mention at all seems fair 🙈 ah, but at least Netease gets an honorable mention 👍
Small mistake, Hornet is obviously not a new character but she is listed as one.
For those asking about GTA 6, it is actually mentioned on the page that if a game has already won this before, it is not eligible again (which I think is great). It specifically mentions GTA 6. Anyway, Saros is a worthy pick here.
@Ravix @Max_the_German GTA 6 has already won the Most Anticipated award on the PS Blog, and it's taken out of the category when it wins for future years. It's explained on the blog.
The lack of Kingdom Come Deliverance II from the early categories is an oversight I wouldn't have made but I understand.
Having a category for PSVR2 games and not listing Arken Age means they don't have the first clue as to what's happening on their own platform. What a joke.
I like Lune but she has no chance against Maelle and it seems odd to have her instead of Gustave or Verso.
Really frustrating to see (or rather not see!) Cronos: The New Dawn missing from the Best PS5 Game category. I loved Ghost of Yotei, and that got my vote, but only because Cronos was missing...
Well as I am playing most games from my backlog. Unless older years game count then my two options left that released in 2025 are:
Lost Records which i am struggling to enjoy or Tomb Raider Legend. Guess it's the latter
Voted for Yotei and Silent Hill F for most categories.
Let's hope that the unholy turd "Everybody's Golf: Hot Shots" (or should that be Nobody's Golf: Luke-warm Shots?) doesn't make the cut!!
Nice to see NG Ragebound and Shinobi in multiple category. I gave my votes for them as well Yotei, DS 2, Lumines Arise, and Tokon.
Voted Clair Obscur every possible time. That game proves that a quality single player experience which doesn’t insult the player, at the right price, will succeed. It’s everything right with the industry and deserves all the love.
Voted Black Ops 7 for best multiplayer because seriously MP can do one.
@LiamCroft fair enough, a little strange but at least it is explained.
The Injustice for Warhorse and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, however 😱
My two heavy-hitters this year were KCD2 and Expedition 33, however my favorite games this year that most people haven't heard of are Eternal Strands and Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon. Both of those were absolutely brilliant games that are well worth anyone's time.
@LiamCroft
A voting like this must be so easy to understand that you don’t need to read a separate text, because nobody expects that. A simple sentence directly above the list like „GTA VI can’t be selected, because it won this category last year“ would be an easy solution.
I’ve only played 2 games this year that released this year; ARC Raiders and Echoes of the End. That being said, ARC Raiders as GOTY, and Ryn from Echoes of the End as best new character 🤷🏾♂️
@sanderson72 disappointed you too, huh? I see it sitting there, but have no desire to play it. Sucks because I was looking forward to it for quite some time. Even spent my final PlayStation Stars cash on it.
@Max_the_German The guidelines are mentioned right before the lists start and they even hyperlinked to GTA 6's win in 2023.
@AhmadSumadi Yes, it truly is one of the worst games I've ever played on PlayStation, especially when it's supposed to be a classic PS title.
Will be flogging it next time I go into town and will continue with the far superior "Easy Come, Easy Golf" from Clap Hanz on the Switch!
@LiamCroft @Ainu20 Thanks. That makes sense with GTA6
Can I just pick Clair Obscur for everything. I'm sure there are some sports in there.
With limited options I won't even have played or don't think much of as those to vote for and confusing layout, yeah pass.
Echoes of the End Enhanced would have been my pick. Everything else I played was Indies from many different genres that don't even get acknowledged, visual novels, FMV games, maybe some odd regular genres people look at, but very niche games or revived ports to modern console of N64/PS1, etc. type games/remasters. So my changes as low, very low. So I played nothing big scale this year, haven't since 2022/2023 really that's how much I've not cared about the 2020s.
I know putting a text box leaves it too open or more moderating but even still, they didn't put enough options by the sounds of it and I didn't like this year at all, the games I played or would have considered won't be listed so to me the big games of this year I can't vote for so I won't.
Also no GTA 6 is fair, it was at 2023 and if it was be offered 'every single time' it would easily get votes, why bother, factor in other to vote for instead (sure others would be listed but why bother if it's just 80%+ and under 20% to the other votes, this is an exaggeration but still possible) so why both offering it every year, they already know people are going to put it so why not highlight other games as options. Also if players don't play many games or don't anticipate many that's on player preferences. Companies want to do fair by other developers/games and i think that's fair even if a business modve it's a fair one then the few games people look to. Companies want to showcase more games not just 1 game every single time that overshadows others. GTA6 could end up bad who knows. But I doubt it will Rockstar has quality even if I think the games are clunky as ever and no amount of scale, AI and more generic locations, tone/satire, makes me care. I'd rather play any crime themed game over any GTAs and I have.
Just because it's the biggest game doesn't mean it needs to be there if the results will be redundant then for the other games, it doesn't show them off well either in comparison which is unfair to those other games. It's clear the scale of it and audience appeal.
I couldn't care less for GTA at all, heck the only Rockstar IPs I cared for was Beaterator on PSP and Smuggler's Run on PS2 that's it, GTA, Midnight Club and others did nothing for me and even then I prefer DMA Design not Rockstar but Rockstar North hasn't made a game of those types in the DMA Design format or audience appeal in years, will we see Space Station Silicon Valley ported/revived by Limited Run like Gex, or the PS1 version as bad as it is on PSN, or on N64 NSO or like Glover was the N64 version ported to modern consoles after having awkward Piko to then Qubyte release situations? But even I know even every time I ignore GTA's presence and scale.
I played a grand total of one new release for the year. So Ghost of Yotei is the winner of everything. Where do you all find the time to play all this stuff?
