PlayStation has announced its participation in this year's Game Awards, and it's showing off its very next PS5 exclusive title.
Saros, the new game from Returnal developer Housemarque, will be part of the spangly, year-ending show, as confirmed on PlayStation's social channels:
All we know is we're getting a "new look" at the rogue-lite third person shooter, which presumably means some fresh gameplay footage, and possibly some story stuff, if the above teaser is anything to go by.
The game is largely built upon Returnal's formula, albeit with some updates and changes. It's also not a sequel, despite its similarities; it's set in a new sci-fi universe with original characters.
In broad strokes you'll be doing the same sort of thing — dodging bullet hell projectiles, blasting aliens, and growing steadily stronger while you do so.
The first gameplay from earlier this year looks great, so we're certainly excited to see more.
The game is due on 20th March 2026, so it's not far off at all at this point.
We'll probably also learn more about pre-orders and those different editions that were leaked recently, too.
Are you excited to see more Saros? Tell us in the comments section below.

Saros is my most expected game of 2026. Can't wait to play it
Hyped about this title! Very much evolution of Returnal's gameplay.
Looks interesting. However, I thought the same about Returnal and I didn’t like that one.
With its similarities to Returnal and the familiarity of its target group with the gameplay, the next trailer should also include the release date. Another „Here are new tidbits of the gameplay, 2026“ just wouldn’t be enough for my taste.
@Max_the_German Saros already has a confirmed release date on 20 March 2026.
@Ainu20 Oh really, that’s embarrassing from my side.
It'll be interesting to get another look at the game. I'm super interested in it.
After finishing The Fall of the House of Usher recently, it's amusing to realize that Rahul Kohli was promoting his participation with PlayStation in front of everyone's faces, and no one knew.
I get that Sony wants to keep Saros in the public consciousness and TGA will have more eyeballs than any other event that Sony could do, but I think we're seeing this game way too much.
I don't think it is, but if this ends up being that carving that Geoff teased, I'm gonna lol the most Millennial lol as people crash out.
@wildcat_kickz how is one gameplay trailer too much. We've barely seen anything from this game.
@Enuo I think it’s because we already know what the game essentially is. That’s not a bad thing, mind you; but it really is Returnal 2.0.
@Enuo There were a few trailers and one was, in my view, a pretty substantial gameplay blowout, including the release date. I'm not saying it's Outer Worlds 2 levels of saturation, but I've definitely seen enough.
Ehhhh Returnal is one of the most disappointing games this generation so hopefully this is a step up. Either they fully commit to the roguelike formula and let you push the upgrades further in each run, or they just make the third person Metroid game that Other M could have been. Imagine how good Returnal would have been as an interconnected planet like Metroid.
Loved returnal my fav ps game this gen but i cant stand rahul! im torn
@Kraven We won’t know until we play!
@nessisonett
“Returnal is one of the most disappointing games this generation”
That just broke my hyperbole meter
N.i.c.e. more Playstation first party games are welcome Word up son
@LogicStrikesAgain Not really. For something to be disappointing, it has to look good. Most of the crap this gen never looked good.
@nessisonett i fully disagree with that. Each to their own but it's easily my favourite game of the generation on any platform.
@Brundleflies21 I don’t think it knew what it was. The roguelike structure didn’t add anything other than artificial difficulty and length. None of the upgrades you got throughout a run felt particularly exciting, especially compared to the abilities or weapons you pick up through a run of Gungeon, Isaac, Hades etc. But if you played it as a straight up third person shooter from beginning to end, it would only take a couple of hours. Making it a roguelike felt more like a way to cover up just how little content it had rather than it being baked into the game’s DNA. The final boss is incredibly anticlimactic too, felt easier than most of the others and just sort of ended. There are elements that are cool and the core gameplay is solid, it just should have had a lot more content especially for a £70 game.
@nessisonett I personally thought each weapon and it's upgrades were very distinct which encouraged a different play style. The gameplay systems were intuitive once you figured out the aggro levels of the each biome's enemies. I was also fine with less arduous overloading that other roguelikes dish out. I was much more enamoured with the fantastic gunplay which felt super tight and the atmosphere was excellent. I liked Selene as a protagonist.
I'll agree on your final boss thoughts. It's a great spectacle but he's pretty to guess which is a shame as the Abyssal Scar was far tougher and deserved a more fitting enemy. Nemesis almost felt like the end game boss. Could've chosen Hyperion over him though.
Shame it didn't fully click with you but I can accept that there's some fair criticism you've listed.
Returnal defo one of my favourite ps5 games, so really looking forward for this. I might actually download returnal over xmas for a blast. I bought returnal mostly because there wasnt much games out at the time and am i glad i did, the controls and gun play was absaloutley on point, it was hard in the start but once you got to grips with it amazing, even got the plat for it, and for me these days that is high praise 🤣
Just read that Returnal sold less than 2 million units. Hopefully Saros finds a bigger playerbase.
Hopefully this isn't the only thing they show. I want to see the 2d god of war game
