Previously set to release for PS5 on the 5th February 2026, Deus Ex Remastered has been hit with an indefinite delay, with the news coming directly from publisher and developer Aspyr.
Announced back in September during a State of Play broadcast, the revival was showcased via a brief gameplay trailer, which highlighted an obvious graphical overhaul.
The problem was that many fans of the original Deus Ex — a stone cold cyberpunk classic — immediately raised concerns over the change in art style.

Some argued that the remaster had stripped the title of its trademark atmosphere, while others simply deemed the new look to be shockingly ugly, and in some cases, a graphical downgrade on a decades-old title.
Aspyr was listening to all of this feedback, at least.
"We've listened to what you said, and in order to better meet fan expectations and deliver the best possible experience for players, Deus Ex Remastered will no longer launch on Feb. 5, 2026," says its social media post.
Again, no new date has been given — and so full refunds will be issued to those who have pre-ordered.
It sounds like Aspyr will be going back to the drawing board with this one, as the statement concludes: "We look forward to sharing more updates with you when the time comes."
Were you looking forward to Deus Ex Remastered? Or do you think this is definitely the right move? Miss a skill check in the comments section below.

Hopefully this will be a movie-Sonic-result and the actual remaster will match the original designs. Because wow that trailer was god-awful in how it looked.
The emulated PS2 version on PS5 is already 4K/60, so this worsened remaster was doomed from the start
Good. Aspyr needs to stop being the go-to for these remasters because they've fumbled time and time again.
Lol. Honestly just give us the PC version at 4K/60fps and call it a day as many will just be happy with that. Better yet pass the project over to Nightdive and let them do it.
Let Nightdive Studios takeover and then we can talk.
@ButterySmooth30FPS The PS2 version is also a heavily gimped version of the PC version that changed and cut a ton of content to fit the PS2. This remaster was welcome in theory as it would give console players the much much better PC version for the first time.
No idea why an iconic game like this was given to Aspyr in the first place.
Very disappointed, it was still better than the og game, sure it wasn't human revolution/mankind divided good but looked decent , I would have bought it
A wise decision, I haven't played the original but their trailer looked like quite the downgrade! Hopefully they're rewarded by the audience for the change in direction
Genuine question... why do people dislike Aspyr? I thought that the Soul Reaver and Tomb Raider remasters were well received.

Im gonna hold out hope this turns out to be good news, because the initial footage indeed looked concerning, and this game/franchise deserves so much more. This game is possibly one of my top 5 favorite games of all-time, a game I’ve come back to across multiple decades of my life and still enjoy very dearly to this day.
@ButterySmooth30FPS Yeah the emulated PS2 version is perfectly fine to play as is. It was my first time playing this version of the game, earlier this year, but its limitations didn’t affect my enjoyment of the game any.
I like the remastered Tomb Raider graphics but they don’t suit Deus Ex at all, the atmosphere is completely destroyed. Still, would be a shame for this to be the end. I’d love a more gritty art style that captures the moody vibes of the original.
@dskatter What exactly is messed up with the remaster? Not defending it, but trying to understand.
And people still claim studios don't listen.
@WhoderMan A lot of the port work they do is either terrible or extremely bare bones. I have a fairly personal beef with them:
They ported the PC version of Star Wars: Force Unleased. The Steam version of that game has some corrupt level files where sound effects don't play on the last two levels. I bought a disc version of the game, which did not have the bug, and created a "patch" which basically just consisted of replacing the bad level files with the disc version files, which I posted to the Steam forums (RIP) back in the day. I emailed this info to Aspyr - their solution was to direct people to the Steam forum thread where I posted about the fix. To this day, the Steam version of the game still has this problem and people still need to seek out my fix.
Separately from that, all PC versions of the game have a bug when using 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound setups where music only plays from the front left speaker. Aspyr was also directing people to my forum thread for that issue even though it was a completely unrelated issue, so I had a bunch of people telling my fix for the music didn't work 🙄
There are a few other ports they did during this era with massive bugs that were never fixed.
I don't get a sense that their company culture has changed in the intervening years and it's a travesty that they somehow still have the publishing rights to a lot of classic Star Wars games.
Aspyr shouldn’t be allowed to make these kind of remasters. They have a very bad track record in doing so. Better let Nightdive Studios take over. They are far from perfect, but at least they are in the front when it comes to remastering old classics.
@DennisReynolds that’s really not true I watched a video comparing and the biggest thing is the levels are cut up with loading screens because of the ps2 power and there is very little that was actually wholesale removed. I got the plat for the ps2 on ps5 version and it ran at a buttery smooth 60 and the controller support was actually pretty good. As for the game itself after years of seeing it be hyped up was a bit of a letdown. Stealth absolutely sucks and is barely viable and the whole imsim aspect is truly barebones with barely any secrets to find and shortcuts to unlock while the story is just ok. Honestly deus ex HR and especially MD are better like infinitely better imo
Dear friend @ButterySmooth30FPS
It was indeed doomed since the announcement, but not because of the emulated PS2 version.
You know what I mean...
I actually liked the look of the remastered version.
Dear friend @Nepp67
Please watch the announcement trailer, you immediately understand the reason (very quickly).
@Sweetz well that's a heck of an answer. Thanks!
Bummed, but hopefully we'll get something better in the end. I honestly didn't think they're take looked as awful as others, but I'm okay waiting.
"The atmosphere is completely destroyed!"... typical fanboy exaggeration.
The crybabies have a tantrum, so let's shove that pacifier in them and put tablet in the stroller for a dose of cocomelon.
I mean.. come on. I’d have played it. Better than the current option (which is effectively nothing!)
Honestly, Aspyr can slow down on these basic reskinned ports. Their remasters may have a fresh coat of paint, but they don’t modernize the feel of the games or add anything to the experience, so these remasters tend to feel inferior to their original counterparts.
They must have not seen the intended pre order numbers or they most certainly wouldn't have "listened" to anything.
@kyleforrester87 : I could be wrong, but isn't the game already on the PS store as a PS2 classic?

@tameshiyaku Just tag me next time rather than being snide.
@BrownOwl I'm sorry my preferences offend you so much.
@nessisonett nah, have read plenty likewise comments online, not you personally. Was hoping for a full on remake or a new installment, but the remaster isn't a catastrophe either, like many make it out to be.
both versions look like dogmeat. its technically impossible for the remaster to be a downgrade on a game that looks like a horses a** to begin with. People love to just complain about every release going these days.
"trademark atmosphere."
The classic criticism of remakes. That's why some devs don't want to touch some classics. Like Bloodborne.
@BrownOwl i was expecting dog meat for both games and thats what we got. Either remake in a modern engine or don't bother

@BrownOwl you're hilarious. I don't agree with you, so you think I'm getting confused and not understanding. You are not worth my time talking game with on here. See ya

I just want to play a remastered version of Half Life 1. It annoys me that it's stuck on PS2 (console wise).
Half Life 2 was an amazing achievement on the original Xbox and wouldn't have been possible on PS2.
I never understood why the original wasn't ported or at least, included in The Orange Box.
@TheArt Tbf, a lot of remakes do have a habit of changing the games atmosphere instead of just updating the resolution and adding more pixels. It’s one of the reasons i prefer originals.
@StitchJones That owl has a stick up their *** 😂
@BrownOwl My friend has this on his PC. Such an amazing version and it's almost criminal it isn't on console. ☹️
It wasn't only "previously set to release on the PS5." It was on the Series X on day one as well. lol.
@BrownOwl I know. But it still upsets me. Especially as Valve seemed incredibly impressed by the work done on it.
@Romans12 This site tends to focus on PlayStation. Unless it's negative articles about Xbox hardware sales. Or negative articles about Xbox games. Or Xbox games they desperately want. 😂
@dark_knightmare2 Indeed, I was informed by some people that I had played a cut down version for years and then i finally got a pc and played it and it was just bigger areas with lots of empty space but less loading screens. I was pretty annoyed lol
I'm bummed that it's been delayed and I feel bad for the undoubtedly hard-working people at Aspyr, but hopefully this will result in a better product. All I really want is a version of the original game (with original visuals) that's playable at 60fps with a controller on console.
