It sounds like Sony studio Insomniac will be making Marvel games for many years yet.

As part of an interview with Game Informer, Marvel Games general manager Haluk Mentes described the Burbank-based dev as “dear friends”, and insinuated that its collaboration will persist long beyond next year’s Marvel’s Wolverine.

He explained when asked about his philosophy leading Marvel Games:

“We actively seek collaborators that want to take on the same mantle. As is usually the case, once we complete a project together, they, too, become ‘Marvel’. Marvel’s Wolverine with our dear friends at Insomniac Games is perhaps the epitome of this philosophy. We have been working together for more than a decade and developed such a shorthand across multiple Marvel’s Spider-Man games that when the time finally came to bring Logan back in spectacular and visceral fashion, it was obvious to everyone on our team that Insomniac was the perfect choice. It was our shared culture and values that brought us together, and we’re so proud to continue collaborating for many years to come.”

Insomniac doesn’t have any projects announced beyond Marvel’s Wolverine, although a spin-off Marvel’s Venom game has been rumoured, along with Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.

Illegally obtained documents which emerged as part of the Insomniac leak also referred to a Marvel’s X-Men game in the faraway future, although it’s entirely possible these plans may have changed by now.

Either way, it seems like Insomniac will remain committed to making Marvel games for the foreseeable future, and it does make commercial sense – after all, the Marvel’s Spider-Man titles are among the best-selling PlayStation games of all-time.
