Season 8 of The Finals is now well into its stride, and this week's mid-season update brings a frighteningly good new game mode, a plethora of spooky rewards, a scarily good store update, and a spread of smaller fixes and improvements – all in time for Halloween.
Mid-season update 8.6.0 introduces a new infection-based game mode for all contestants to enjoy called 'Ghoul Rush'.
This mode sees a free-for-all pan out over Alfa Acta’s P.E.A.C.E. Centre map, with each player being a heavy or medium, with a set loadout of P90, Goo Grenade, explosive mine, and proximity sensor for medium – or a beefy M60 paired with a barricade, pyro mine, and a lockbolt for heavy.
This is no ordinary deathmatch, however — it has an infectious twist. Any eliminated player will be reanimated as one of two ghouls: an imp (with a set loadout of a shiny dagger) or an ogre (with a set loadout of a deathly sledgehammer).
From what we've played, this mode is best enjoyed as a team, and sticking with your fellow survivors is the best way to avoid being turned into a ghoul or ogre – but don't let your guard down. If you do decide to team up, you never know who might betray you for the sweet cash bonus.
Paired with this limited-time game mode, we also have a new event, called The Haunted Harvest, which presents a set of Pumpkin-cased rewards to be earned.
Each daily event contract, spanning 14 days, will give you the opportunity to break open a hanging pumpkin, containing one of the 14 free Halloween-themed rewards.
On top of these hauntingly good items, if you are dedicated enough to claim all 14 pumpkins, you will be given the legendary Swamp Formal set, giving you the intimidating guise of a green ogre. On the topic of cosmetics, there has also been a store update to fit the strong Halloween theme of this patch.
We also see some bug fixes and patches to improve the general gameplay experience, such as slight map changes, cosmetic fixes and even kill cam upgrades.
