We’ve known about Death Stranding’s anime adaptation for a little while now, but this first look at the film is genuinely jaw-dropping.

With animation from Japanese outfit ABC Animation Studio, the movie is adopting a very bold, comic book-style look.

The pencil-like shading gives it a very different appearance to most modern anime, which tends to adopt more of a glossy look.

The film’s being written by Aaron Guzikowski (Raised by Wolves) under the working subtitle Mosquito, and of course will be produced by Hideo Kojima.

Crucially, this is a new story set in the Death Stranding universe, and not an adaptation – although familiar characters will return, such as Sam Bridges, as seen in the trailer.

There’s no release date attached to the project just yet, but the teaser trailer has significantly amplified our anticipation.
