Acclaimed 16-Bit Shooter Earthion Sets Sights on PS5, PS4 Next Week 1

Legendary Japanese developer Ancient will return to contemporary consoles on 18th September, with the highly anticipated Earthion locking down a release date.

The game – designed and developed for the SEGA Genesis – features a foot-stomping soundtrack from Streets of Rage composer Yuzo Koshiro, and has been attracted rave reviews on Steam. You can read the impressions of our colleagues at Time Extension through here.

For those who haven’t been following this one, here’s the blurb:

“With Earth's resources depleted and its environment in ruin, most of humanity has fled to Mars. But when hostile invaders launch an attack on Earth, mankind has no choice but to fight back. As environmental researcher Azusa Takanashi, you'll pilot the state-of-the-art space fighter YK-IIA and mount the most important counterattack in human history. Losing is not an option!”

While the game’s been built and designed with 16-bit hardware in mind, it looks absolutely outstanding and is sure to play flawlessly on Sony’s hardware.

If this is a game you’d prefer to own physically, various versions can be purchased from Limited Run Games, including controllers and a Collector’s Edition.

September is obviously looking like a ridiculously dense week for new releases, but will you be setting aside time for this nostalgic treat? Gun us down in the comments section below.
