Simple Death Stranding 2 PS5 Patch 1.08 Fixes Camera Issues

This is great, but we all know this isn’t the fix we were hoping for. I’ve had to stop playing until the overheating issue is properly resolve. What a shame.

@Qu1n0n3z I risked it in the end but haven't noticed the issue. I think there was slight noise during the map screen at one point but nothing akin to the PS5 becoming airborne. Also about 40% in so would have come across it by now.

Seen a lot of people talking about overheating issues and it possibly being linked to an uncapped frame rate when looking at the map. I wonder if there’s more to it that than that? I have a day 1 ps5, which hasn’t seen a ton of use (bought for exclusives) and have about 45 hours in DS2, no shutdowns or overheating. I’ve been playing about 2-3 hour sessions most days since launch week.

I know some people were concerned about the longevity of the “Liquid Metal” used in launch systems as the medium between the SoC and heatsink. I wonder if this is contributing to the overheating issues?

I have a base PS5 and I’m only 20 or so hours in with 5-6 hour sessions each on DS2 and I haven’t noticed many issues.. I’ve had a trike disappear from the loading zone (where you go down to sleep) and I’ve clipped through a few trees/rocks.. system sounds fine and I have it on ‘performance’ mode.. but I do have an HDMI 2.1 Samsung 4K TV.. wonder if the upscaling helps at all with preventing overheating 🤔 I’m not a tech guy so I’ll just shut up lol

I am loving the game especially with it being in Australia as I am Australian myself and can relate with the game better than the first game , I never had any issues with the camera stuttering at all from day 1, however I have issues with the gun being put away when I am aiming when I'm not even telling it to be put away and multiple times I have died because of this issue , I have to press aim multiple times in order to get the gun back out, even tho it is a few seconds of being put away and he brings it back out those few seconds of not being able to shoot the enemy can and does get you dead , over the month of the game being out I have learned to deal with the issue and compromise with other weapons but it is a really annoying issue I wish Sony would fix. Other than that issue I am loving the game and the smooth game play, I especially love how when playing online its easier to build the roads and rail system with everyone contributing to the recorces needed. The story itself is great and keeps you wondering what happens next and questioning the storyline itself and making you want more. It's an amazing game but needs a few fixes like the gun issue. I'd rate it a 8.5 out of 10 putting I to account t the issues and improvements it could have.

@Qu1n0n3z Quick question if you don't mind. I want to get to the bottom of why some users are having issues with overheating on the map screen. I have a theory that I haven't heard anyone else discussing anywhere. In the PS5 video settings I believe, there's an option to allow for 120Hz output. Even with my cheap cheap cheap 60Hz 4KTV, it allows me to choose it as an option. It's not greyed out like the VRR option (PS5 detects my TV is cheap and doesn't support it). So it's odd to me I could have the 120Hz option enabled when my TV clearly doesn't support it. By chance, do you have the 120Hz option enabled on your PS5, but don't have a 120Hz TV? If DS2 detects your PS5 having 120Hz enabled, and is running the game on the map screen with an uncapped framerate, but you only have a 60Hz TV, is it causing the overheating issue? I have the base model that came with GOW Ragnarok bundle a few years ago. Before I played DS2 and heard about the map screen being uncapped, I went through my video settings and noticed I had 120Hz enabled and turned it off. On another note regarding the liquid metal getting too hot, I have always had my PS5 laying down horizontally. So any chance of it getting too hot and melting downward from a vertical position has never happened. I would think even it was only one time that it was vertical and the liquid metal go too hot, it would continue to have overheating issues whether it was vertical or horizontal afterwards or not, supposing some of the liquid metal is no longer in it's proper place. If any of that makes sense.

@Neither_scene Also have a day 1 PS5, I've been using it much more regularly than you however, still not noticed any overheating issue. This comment section is the first I'm hearing of it. Maybe I'm just lucky.

@Qu1n0n3z I avoid being on the map for more than a minute at a time, and if I have to pause it for longer I'll hop back out to the PS5 home screen. Any more than that and the system starts sounding like a rocket engine.

Death Stranding 2 is the only game I’ve played since it came out, absolutely love it. I’m 86 hours in and never seen any camera issues or any other issues.

Of course I’ve probably tempted fate now!!

Just got the platinum on pro after 330 hours i though this patch made the image a bit soft in performance but changing the sharpness on the tv fixed it

@Qu1n0n3z I got my PS5 december 2020, its been standing upright in the same spot ever since. Never took it apart or removed its covers to clean dust or anything. Been playing DS2 in 8-hour stretches in the scorching heat of this summer. I've never had an overheating warning. Maybe I'm just lucky.

@armad11 The liquid metal can't be the cause as it would have happened on other games, also I have what I assume is a base model (despite getting a few years after initial release) and it's always been vertical. Couple that with the fact apart from brushing aside a bit of dust from the vents and never removing the covers or cleaning it mine would be a prime candidate for a non-game related heating issue.

@Jammer my ps5 has also been placed vertically since purchase. I’m saying that the degradation of the Liquid Metal could be compounding the issue and leading to overheating as this is not being experienced by everyone.

If it hasn’t degraded you’re safe from the overheating issue, if it has, running the unlocked framerate is pushing temperatures too high for the heatsink to efficiently pull heat from the chip. Some people have reported similar issues with horizon having an unlocked frame rate in the map screen.

The fact it’s not impacting all users leads credence to the idea that it could be some kind of hardware level issue compounding the problem. In this case degradation of the thermal compound (Liquid Metal). This can be an issue on pc where users sometimes have to re-paste their CPU’s or GPU’s to navigate thermal throttling or shutdowns.

@Neither_scene But surely the liquid metal issue would affect many more this whole thing seems too random. Hence why I didn't start DS2 till a good few weeks after buying it but glad I risked it as it's fine touch wood and a stunning game. Also I guess my PS5 is a base model let alone I've done hardly anything to clean it over the years supports that. Also people are reporting the issue with PS5s they've just purchased so that kinda makes the liquid metal issue a non-starter too. In all my years of owning PlayStations I think the only one that ever broke was a PS4.

@DrVenture69 Dear Lord 330 hours? You sir deserve a medal. I think I'm 40 hours in nope tell a lie 35 hours which is 52% in theory. Without getting spoilery is there a new game plus for you to get that kind of mileage?

@Jammer nope all just first play through, i pretty much didnt fast travel i just loved wandering around doing the deliveries and building/upgrading road 😄. Some of the late game npcs can be a bit grindy and i was ready to move on by the end of it, but it was still fun. I ended up with 2M+ likes (i really should get a life, but this was more fun!😄)

Just checked and there’s no NG+ but you can just keep going after finishing the story, so you don’t miss out

@DrVenture69 I just got to the samurai versus Higgs bit and damn did that not give me the MGS vibes obviously a big shout out to a certain MGS legendary character. And we all have lives I mean apart from having to feed my kittehs the damn game has me hooked can barely drag myself away from it it's a masterpiece.
