Brutal Legend PS3

Update []:

Double Fine has announced Amnesia Fortnight 2026, a Kickstarter page that'll let you help decide what the developer makes next.

It's putting on a live game jam, and of the ideas the developers come up with, the people who support the Kickstarter will select four to be made into prototypes. From there, one of those four prototypes will be picked to become an actual game Double Fine creates.

The Kickstarter will launch on 31st August 2026. Here's the idea in the studio's own words:

We're going to do a Game Jam, live on the internet, in which our backers will get to choose which of our myriad of ideas get made into four new prototypes — and which of those final four will become a real (small) game. You may even snag some sweet merchables and rarities along the way.

Original Story: Psychonauts team Double Fine is going to share "what's next for the studio" today as part of a livestream on the Kinda Funny Games YouTube channel.

Having just returned to independence after years of ownership under Microsoft, the developer plans to talk about its future on the live show scheduled to start in the coming hours. I doubt you're going to get actual game announcements out of the livestream, but I presume Tim Schafer will be there to talk about how Double Fine will approach its future.

Whatever happens, I'll update this article with the news.

At the end of last month, 23 employees had to be let go from Double Fine in order to ensure the team's future. "As a small, tightly-knit team, these actions are not taken lightly. Only the survival of our studio would ever make us consider such a painful action. Our transition to becoming an independent company also means becoming a size that we can sustain," Schafer said.

As well as the Psychonauts series, Double Fine also made Brutal Legend, Broken Age, Costume Quest, Stacking, and much more. If comebacks for any of these franchises were on the cards, which one would you hope it would be? Let us know in the comments below.
