Developer Tribute Games is busy making Scott Pilgrim EX, a follow-up to the fan favourite beat-'em-up Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game — and it's looking like a worthy successor in this early gameplay footage.

The studio has provided a three-minute video of alpha gameplay, showcasing the game's pretty pixel art and side-scrolling action:

It looks like it shares a few elements with the previous Scott Pilgrim beat-'em-up, like collecting coins from defeated enemies, shops to purchase items, and lots of pick-ups and throwable objects.

There's a reason it may bear some resemblance to the older title; Tribute Games was formed by members of the team that worked on it under Ubisoft, so things have truly come full circle.

Tribute Games has made a name for itself with other throwback beat-'em-ups like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, as well as the upcoming Marvel Cosmic Invasion.

Here's hoping Scott Pilgrim EX can live up to the legacy when it arrives in 2026.
