For those of you still playing Infinity Nikki, a gacha platformer which was largely beloved upon release, you’ll know it’s been going through a difficult time.
To cut a long story short, in a milestone update recently, the developer meddled with the gacha system, inexplicably retconned the story, and basically broke the whole game.
It’s been handing out apologetic in-game currency like candy, but its reputation is in tatters. As one user aptly put it on YouTube: “[This is an] end of service speedrun by the devs.”
Ruinous updates or not, the show must go on, and so we have our first preview trailer for v1.7, the Blue Tears Season, which is due out on 7th July.
“Get ready for new events, a new dungeon, and so much more,” the official blurb reads. “Stylists, don't miss out on the excitement – dive in and explore!”
While the majority of the trailer relies on gibberish to outline its plot, you’ll be heading to a new area occupied by a fantastical dragon, as you work with a historian to record undocumented facts about the world.
As you’d expect, there’ll also be new outfits to collect, including a handful of free ones to add to your collection, like the strikingly glittery Midnight Dream.
But in the wake of all the recent chaos, this does look like a light update overall. We suppose the hope is that the team is working hard on a v2.0 reboot, where it can hopefully get the whole project back on track.
