Ubisoft has confirmed that the next big update for Assassin's Creed Shadows will drop next week, on the 29th July.
The introduction of an extensive-sounding New Game+ mode is the headline act here, allowing players to restart the game (having already finished it at least once) with all of their character progression and equipment intact.
Here's a quick breakdown of what carries over in New Game+:
- Character level
- Equipment
- Knowledge rank
- Hideout progression
Those who complete a New Game+ run are being promised exclusive rewards, by the way. We assume they'll be in the form of unique gear and skins. New Trophies are being thrown into the deal as well.
On top of New Game+, the patch will increase the level cap for all players. It's going from 60 to 80, and the jump brings with it new Knowledge ranks, new Mastery and Knowledge skill ranks, and new upgrades for your hideout facilities.

Furthermore, a new Project's being added, which the developer is keen to stress will not cancel or remove your progress through previous challenges. In other words, you'll be able to move on to it at any time.
Then there are the smaller improvements, coming a bit later, in September. These include being able to unfog the entire map by finding all viewpoints, and having the ability to move the in-game time forward.
And speaking of September, the game's first expansion, Claws of Awaji, launches on the 16th.
So, some big news for fans of Assassin's Creed Shadows, but will you be taking a trip back to Japan for New Game+? Make sure your blades are sharpened in the comments section below.

Oh bloody hell. Not new game + trophies do I really need to play the whole story twice?
@DaveTheRave If you want the Trophies, I'm guessing so. Although they won't count towards the Platinum — they'll be part of their own Trophy list.
I'm going back when the DLC releases. Amazing, beautiful game.
Moving in game time forward was seriously lacking from base release so that's helpful, albeit should have been there at launch. Doubt I'll play new game plus tbh. Too many games, too little time. Would like them to toggle level scaling on and off though. Seems silly levelling up to be stronger in certain areas, only for enemies to just get stronger too. Appreciate that ensures challenge throughout the game, but negates the point of levelling up your character.
I will be playing the dlc though. Looking forward to that 😀
@ShogunRok yeh but seeing a game you platinumed not being at 100% is annoying lol saying that ive wished other ubisoft titles gave trophies for new game plus so im not complaining. Tho itl be a while before i get round to it lol
@Danloaded I’m a completionist so yeah annoying as hell. Have barely any time to play many games as it is without playing same ones over again
I would love to see them release these complete games physically
@ShogunRok it was a rhetorical question btw. I guess the ? didn’t help that though
@DaveTheRave No you don't. If you aren't going to enjoy it, why would you play it just for trophies. #madness
Respectfully... if you have no time to play games, perhaps... just consider... as mad as it may sound... not... being... a... completionist. At the end of the day it's you choice, but you can't have it both ways.
Just platinumed this last week at 90 hours and enjoyed it a fair bit (7/10) but will speed run the NG+ on maybe Easy difficulty, just for the 100% trophy. Looking forward to the DLC hope it continues Naoe’s story from where Act 3 leaves off…..
@themightyant it’s literally an addiction at this point lol. My bad 🤷♂️
Come to PS Plus!
@DaveTheRave I get it. I've been there with 225,000+ Gamerscore and 80+ Platinums. It may not seem like it, but I am trying to help.
At least you realise it's an addiction, but what are you going to do to address that? If you want to keep being a completionist that's of course fine, it's up to you. But if you aren't getting enjoyment from completing games and it feels more often like a relief when you do, and frustration when trophies are added, then there is another way.
I do still Platinum / 1000GS games, but I have a simple set of rules. Am I enjoying it? Do I actually want to keep playing? If all i'm playing for is to complete a checkbox I move on 90% of the time. The other 10% i'm within touching distance of the Plat and go for it anyway. Old habits die hard. I GENUINELY think you will enjoy gaming more if you quit trying to 100% everything, it's more empowering to choose.
Im going back to the game but only in September not now
Im sure Balaam_ will love this update and the extra trophies he can hunt.
Frankly surprised this isn't $30 yet, been holding out as every Ubi game I buy drops like a stone.
This is a stunning game and one best played slow. Immersing yourself in the beautiful world. Had it since launch and played about 30 hours. Slowly building up my hideout base which I’m loving
@themightyant I do it with life in general the wife and the kids. Everything has to be done right/to completion. Maybe I should call completionists anonymous. I suppose it’s better than being addicted to drink or drugs 👊
@DaveTheRave It is much better, and it can be great in life if channelled correctly. But freaking out that games are getting more trophies / more free content is a step too far. Good luck either way pal.
@themightyant well I’m not quite freaking out over it pal ha more annoyed
@themightyant Play the games that you think are worth the time. If a game ibad enough for you to annoyed with go play something else. 😆
@Flaming_Kaiser that’s exactly what I do. Doesn’t mean I want to be playing them twice does it. Shadows is amazing but I do not need to see the whole story again. More than happy to do dlc add-ons with new content. Fine 👍. New game plus trophies are just stupid
It's a good game but after 30 hours it felt tedious, has nothing on Ghost of Tsushima. But still the best AC in a long time.
Looks like they never learnt from Valhalla adding more stuff to a game doesn't make it better it makes it worse stop with the bloat
