Your Forgotten Honkai: Star Rail Characters Are About to Get a Lot More Useful 1

As we’ve reported in the past, power creep is a real issue in gacha games like Honkai: Star Rail.

To summarise the issue for those not in the know, developers will gradually make new characters more powerful than their predecessors to entice steady spending. But that means older units gradually become useless over time.

Zenless Zone Zero recently took a stab at this issue by making Ellen much more powerful, and Honkai: Star Rail will be following in its footsteps by upgrading Silver Wolf, Kafka, and Blade.

As with ZZZ, you’ll be able to toggle the improvements on and off, but we’re not entirely sure why you’d purposefully make your characters less powerful.

In the case of Silver Wolf, improvements include her Ultimate becoming an AoE attack, as opposed to hitting one target. She’ll also prioritise inflicting the weakness of the first character in your party on foes, and will regenerate energy at the start of her turns.

So these subtle tweaks should help rocket the character up tier lists, and we’re expecting similar improvements for Kafka and Blade, too. As particular fans of the former, we’re looking forward to what’s in store.

All of the changes will be implemented in v3.4, which will also introduce story skips for the first time. You’ll now be able to bypass lengthy dialogue sequences and get a summary, which is a massive quality of life improvement considering just how wordy Honkai: Star Rail has become.

More will be announced during a livestream later this week on 20th March, and we’ll bring you all of the news from that as it breaks.
