Beat Saber studio Beat Games has announced it'll no longer be supporting the PSVR2 and PSVR versions of its rhythm game, effective immediately.
As of this month, the team won't be supporting the two PlayStation versions anymore with new content or updates. You can continue to play them, and they will remain purchasable from the PS Store, and all the DLC you have bought will still be accessible.
However, henceforth, no new songs will be released for the PS5, PS4 editions and the multiplayer will also be switched off on 21st January 2026.
One of the biggest and best VR games effectively of all time, across all headsets, Beat Saber has been a mainstay of the virtual reality space for years. As for why the PlayStation versions are being dropped, the developer said it's so it can "look to the future and plan the next big leap for Beat Saber".
It continues: "We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and what we can bring to Beat Saber fans who have been on this journey with us over the past 7 years." Since its release, the game has been supported with tons of individual songs and music packs, ranging from Billie Eilish to Green Day and Lady Gaga.
"We're grateful for the incredible support you've shown us over the years, and we're excited to share what the future holds for Beat Saber," said Beat Games.

Not that the title is particularly controversial but I just wanna say I think Synth Riders is the more fun rhythm VR game
Nowhere near the best PSVR game. But then I’m lazy and play all my VR games sitting down.
Oh this is not good news at all. Not good news.
Got to pour one out with this one! 😢
Damn VR2 is on its last legs now surely. Tragedy as it’s so good
I'd say the writing was on the wall, but when wasn't it. A shame as I know a lot of people that love PSVR2, but it's never been particularly well supported either by Sony or third parties.
Good tech, but without games and developers it's just another legacy device.
Makes me wonder if PS6 doesn’t support PSVR or PSVR2 much like how Series X|S doesn’t support Kinect.
I mean how can you expect developers to support things when playstation doesnt even support the thing.
Such a waste of tech.
It's had a 'good' run and I bet its not drawing in enough players that spend money to keep spending money on Servers and Support. You can still buy and Play at least.
It also seems that they are focusing on their next project, investing into that rather than keep spending money on their 'Old' game...
@Grumblevolcano it 100% won't. Sony is done with VR after this, and I say this as someone who bought PSVR2 day one. For Beat Saber, the most popular VR game of all time, not to sell enough on PSVR headsets means PSVR2 sold horribly and I expect many VR developers will follow suit by dropping support.

What's always baffled me is why Sony didn't try to port their PSVR1 games. Titles like Iron-Man, Astro Bot, Wipeout and Blood and Truth all left behind.
I don’t disagree that there could have been better support. I will admit that it surely didn’t sell as well as I’m sure Sony hoped. But I bought mine day one, preordered with HCotM. Still haven’t beaten that one but I’ve been fortunate enough to afford a simple seat and a t300 (also bought when it was higher than it is now). With that setup and GT7, all of the great rhythm games, Walkabout Golf, Legendary Tales and Ultrawings, I’m very pleased with the system.
I think all of this “it was doomed, never supported, no one bought it, not enough games!” talk is similar to the “where are the games‽?” about PS5 generally. Everyone dumps on the States of Play. I think people just love to b*tch and moan. I guess I am too indirectly. But I think it’s a great time to be a gamer and honestly couldn’t be happier with the selection and the system(s).
I hope this simply means they’re working on a Beat Saber sort of sequel, at least spiritually. I’ll buy it for sure if they release it on PSVR2.
I am gutted. Beat Saber is pretty much the only game I play ( I get motion sickness on so many other games), and it's genuinely one of my favourite games of all time
So disappointing 😭
@Dlld0Baggins It usually people who like moving goalposts all the time.
They say "PS5 has no games" because they discount anything that's 3rd party, cross gen and on PC.
@AdamNovice I agree. I personally don’t care if other people get to play the game on another system. Tying games to PS4 and the possible intrinsic limits that so many PS5 games might have had as a result for so long is one thing. But I think the game dev situation is different now. PC and Xbox versions of games aren’t taking away my enjoyment of the games I play on PS5.
That's a real shame. I play beat saber on a daily basis. I've even bought almost all DLC offered. I was really looking forward to the random song drops that they introduced.
Sigh...
@Hoodie718 All completely different games. For me, Beat Saber is by far the most fun.
Loved the gameplay of Beat Saber but the music selection is... well, not very good.
If it was possible to add your own music library with some way for the game to make a beat map based on each song, I would have played it a lot more.
This is kinda embarrassing but only sonys fault. I get having a closed off ecosystem for console. But you should allow your customers to do whatever they want with their headsets for vr an extremely niche market
I don't get what support the devs could add tho lol. As far as I remember, this game is heavily carried by the community. Custom maps, sabers, music and even ways to play it were all done by mods no?
@thefourfoldroot1
Same here.
Plus let’s not forget who owns Beat Games.
@AdamNovice I absolutely adore my PSVR2 (and VR in general) but you're absolutely right. Sony missed a huge opportunity by not making some straightforward ports of VR1 games. I would have picked up so many of those games with the increased control and VR2 improvements.
@Voltan I'm with you here. Just wish there were more tracks for Synth Riders without having to pay far too much just for just a couple of extra songs at a time.
Has no one mentioned Synapse as the best PSVR2 game?!? That has to be in with a shout? Certainly the best Star Wars game ever made!
It's amusing to read the comments blaming Sony for a decision that is 100% Meta's. Could PSVR2 have had better support from PlayStation? Theoretically, yes. Financially, no.
Ironically, ending Beat Saber's support for the platform is a result of Meta (not Sony) deprioritizing VR gaming in favor of VR computing.
People love to complain. But to me, PSVR2 has been the reason I'm still into gaming this generation.
@StonyKL Yep, super overlooked and underrated. To me, it's right up there at the top along with GT7 and Tetris Effect.
PSVR and PSVR2 are both fantastic bits of kit, I picked the original up in some sale and it's certainly showing it's age now, but the second iteration I was game on for and picked up as soon as I could. It's rare that I feel buyer's remorse but it does feel like I wasted money. Admittedly I've only ever been tempted by Beat Sabre, but as a display for GT7 it's far better than my (not cheap and fully supported) main TV. It's a shame that Sony seemed to give up on it within months of release. It feels like it was an obligatory piece of hardware they had to put out, and I don't blame dev's for not porting to it. Although I'm happy Beat Sabre will still be available. Who knows, maybe I'll take the plunger eventually?
Well that sucks, bought loads of the dlc. Thought they were slow on the shock drops with only three songs.
@Jswift56 there's only three on the other versions too.
As for it being dropped, whether people personally like it or not, it is still considered vr's poster seller. Sony really should be trying to convince them to keep supporting it. Fund it themselves if they have to.
Wow what a cruddy move. Only got mine in November with the Black Friday deals and Beat Saber has easily been one of our most played; it’s without a doubt our preferred VR rhythm game. They’d better at least offer some deep discounts or freebies from the existing DLC selection, otherwise what reason is there to keep supporting a developer who wants to treat a sizable portion of its customers like trash?
And here i was expecting the ps6 to literally be just a VR headset
This is a big loss. Not even my personal favorite rhythm game (nods towards Pistol Whip) and far from my favorite VR game but it’s certainly the evergreen VR game. If Beat Saber’s developers don’t see a profit in continuing to release DLC for Beat Saber on the PSVR2 it’s certainly the harbinger of a broader shift (further) away from it.
""look to the future and plan the next big leap for Beat Saber"
So DLC and support is on going for other platforms... cool cool cool. Just say you didn't hit the numbers you wanted to on PS4/5. If the numbers warranted the continued support wouldn't you want to bring along the PS players for the "big leap"
So what not enough sales or in the time span they want, wow how surprising of companies to do so. Companies have no sense of waiting or understanding of customers right time to purchase things, companies want things now. Like a bunch of children. I'd rather support an audience big enough or make your own not rely on licensing all the time. But nope.
I wont' blame Sony, customers get what they can/have interesting in or pricing that fits right.
Devs of all these studios have no interest and are too picky. Sony made a even if awkward at times fit compared to PSVR1 a still great headeset.
If other headsets do better sure. oh no that audience has more money to take from. How about a level editor that console versions never have? Community contente moderating or what just an editor but no sharing is still something.
If IPs people want to see even if demos are on PSVR2 sure, but devs/pubs are so lazy to 'build an audience, so why would audiences come if they don't even offer things. Sure audiences could be less picky but it is what it is'. Well why not put something out or continue to fund it? Or make an offline version even. But nope.
I hate how devs treated game design/motion on PSVR2 so to me it was just bad on their part but oh the customer is in the wrong for their better understanding of how the motion works and they misuse it, sure sure. XD
Companies don't want to build audiences it seems? Whatever people see they will experience via video or maybe experience themselves then through video.
The licensing or dev time can't be hurting that much to be on PSVR for song packs. I think it's a joke and just makes me laugh at them for giving up so soon.
@SMJ They followed along with EVERY OTHER VR headset tech direction, that's not up to Sony, that's up to developers if they choose to. They could have kept it but they chose the other solution as it's likely what they wanted, devs wanted and followed the trends or their own approach of said trends or tech solutions. If devs want to complain going oh the transitions when other headsets do it they need to suck it up. They can't 1 to 1 everything or we would have massive consoles taking up way too much space.
Sony can't keep every single thing of tech around. That's like saying we need AV cables on the PS4/5, it would be nice but I can see why they do so, because of the offering of HDMi in visuals, DRM and more.
I was annoyed Nintendo cut the IR when they barely used it but oh well I guess they don't need it they needed Game Chat and other garbage on there. Mouse pointers aren't replacing them of use cases either.
Not everything between consoles can transition the same way all the time.
They had been using Move light tracking for years so for PS3/4 was fair and they used the limits of it to what others were doing.
They find new ways using other tech solutions. I'd like to see old methods be capable but I can see why.
If the dev kits or the transition is possible and devs are lazy to spend money doing so that's on them not Sony, they were informed, or any other headset maker for PC as well.
Besides dev kit costs or however Meta/others are in comparison of tools, power and more.
Sony can always offer high end tech we think is cool and devs go eh, we will go the cheaper one instead to save costs then use the great Sony or any others have provided.
Like many DS to PSP ports or any other such examples, that's not on Sony that's other's laziness.

Beat saber is in my opinion the best rhythm game. In that sense it is a shame that they stop supporting it on psvr2. If the game is still supported on other platforms, then this decision feels strange. It cannot be that much work to also support the psvr2 version, and I am not sure whether this move would drive enough people to start from scratch and switch platforms. If they want to slowly ramp down and move on, it makes sense to stop supporting the platform that is not relevant for their future plans (if a successor is in the works, it won't be available on psvr2.)
Anyway I am happy that it made the jump to psvr2, which was not obvious. It has a decent enough music library, and as long as it does not disappear from the store it is not that bad.
Also people hate live service games (at least if they are produced by Sony; unless people make exceptions for games that do not have an explicit live service sticker attached to it), so there is likely no place for an indefinitely supported game.
A great game no doubt, especially for people just entering VR but It's been around a long time and I rarely touch it after completing the campaign both on PS VR and PS VR2. IMO, and it's just that, opinion, there are games that are better and I enjoy way more than Beat Saber in 2025.
So essentially, they're near enough confirming Beat Saber II?
@Grumblevolcano Of courses PS6 won't support either of the previous iterations but Sony will probably announce PSVR3 for the PS6 which is also not compatible with the previous ones.
@DaveTheRave It has nothing to do with PSVR 2 being on it's last legs, the studio behind Beat Saber is owned by Meta nowadays. They just want to have advantage over the competitor, that's all.
@Art_Vandelay Ah, finally somebody else with knowledge of the VR-business. How refreshing! Completely agree with all you've said above here, including the 'PSVR 2 is the reason why you're still into gaming this gen.' Same here man, same here🍻
@Trousersnake I know, right? What really fascinates me is why VR hasn't taken off yet. I have my theories and the reasons are multifaceted, but it's mind-blowing enough that it should be more popular. Cheers.
Meanwhile Gran Turismo says hold my beer
@Trousersnake I hope you are right because I was day one with the damn thing and I loved it but this seems like hard news to take even for the biggest fans
@AdamNovice
Just think about it: Iron Man, Batman, Blood&Truth, Astro, RE7; all getting new updates for PSVR2 compatability.
Then for VR2: Do whatever you can to port Alyx and even though it's really difficult; do something for Arkham Shadow and Deadpool
They really screwed up. I would definetely buy this even it has only had the games I mentioned and I didn't count other good VR2 games yet...
