The original PS1 inspired countless careers, as for many the game Music by Jester Interactive gave them their first taste of music production.
We’ve seen various other digital audio workstations release on numerous PlayStation consoles since, including the Timbaland endorsed Beaterator on the PSP.
But now the PS5 is getting its own suite of KORG synthesisers, which will bring a true music production experience to the home console.
The official description explains:
“The KORG Gadget for PlayStation includes 16 gadget instruments required for music creation. In addition to numerous unique synthesizers, ready-to-use two drum machines are all included. All gadgets have sophisticated adjustable parameters for rapidly producing all manner of sounds. You will find inspiring sounds quickly and easily.”

Now obviously this isn’t going to rival a true PC-based DAW like Ableton Live or ProTools, but at just £39.99/$49.99 on a relatively accessible piece of hardware, this could prove an affordable entry point for many budding musicians, just like those old PS1 games back in the day.
Unfortunately, there’s no WAV file export feature, so it’s going to be challenging to get your creations off the console in a good quality, which isn’t ideal.
But for fledgling producers to use, you get seven tracks to work with, and there’s the promise of more to be added in a future update.
The user interface, which uses a 3D-style to “flip” through the different instruments looks smartly designed, although we suspect it’s going to be fiddly faffing with each synth’s settings on a DualSense.
Nevertheless, KORG is describing this as a “ground-breaking music production studio that offers a uniquely immersive experience, unlike any other software, elevating your creativity to new heights”.
Is this something you’ve been looking for, or do you prefer the flexibility of a PC for your music production needs? Drop a sick synth wave in the comments section below.

Or, just use Garageband for free!
I had a couple of KORG things on the 3DS, that was pretty cool.
Without the ability to export audio, this is just another toy with little practical use.
I have this on iPad, Mac, Switch and soon PS5. I'm a big fan!
Great to see the graphical upgrade. Hope some of those extra synths become available as DLC at some point. The Sega Otoori (has sounds from Outrun, Powerdrift, Space Harrier etc) and Taito's Ebina (Darius, Ninja Warriors etc).
Shame about the lack of audio exporting. There's ways around it though.
OK, I want it, but what the hell is this software's purpose without export?
Not very groundbreaking if there is no way to get your music off the app to share with people
You could use video capture. Depends on what bitrate the recording saves at, but that's one way
Can you not stick a wire from your TV headphones socket and plug it into your Laptop mic socket and not lose quality when you turn on sound recorder..it just seems pointless not being able to export a wav file.
@DreadfulDragon just run an aux cable from the tv to an interface, open up your favorite DAW, and boom, you're ready to record.
If i can figure out a way to get the sound to my laptop, I'll look forward to using this with my volcas, Roland and stylophones... shouldn't be too hard to record some loops even without exporting as an option 👌
Oooh... KORG on PS5?! 😃
I really curious want to try to compose my own music since I really have some music ideas from the humming I made long long time ago.
Wonder if this will support usb keyboards e.g. Akai mini plus or at least support mouse and keyboard...
Could be fun... I use Ableton and Reason for my music production currently so this will need to be accessible to be of any use...
Why on earth would they not include the option to export .wav files? That makes it basically useless. Basically for no reason.
