Already controversially available on GBA – where manufacturers Limited Run Games and Retro-Bit Gaming have been criticised for using recycled cartridge components – Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution will belly dance to PS5 and PS4 later this summer.
For those of you who don’t know, this game was originally in development all the way back in 2002, when a GBA demo was made and pitched to publishers. But after poor sales of the GBC version caused companies to pass on the project, WayForward eventually shelved the project, until it was resurrected in 2023.

As mentioned, you can already buy GBA cartridges, but the home console conversion will follow imminently. Expect retro-style puzzle platforming, chunky sprite visuals, and even a four-player Battle Mode. You can also choose between classic and modern UIs, but we’re not sure why you’d pick the latter.
We’re rather fond of the Shantae games, and this particular title has such an interesting story that it’s whipped its way onto our radar. But are you down for another Arabian adventure? Expose your midriff in the comments section below.

Do LRG plan to sell the GBA rom at all does anyone know? I have no interest in buying it physically (these ‘new’ retro games always seem really cheaply made) but I’d love to get the rom on my Everdrive to play it on a GBA, and I’d be happy to play for the privilege.
Either way, I’ll likely buy this game on modern console too (probably Switch) as I do love the Shantae games.
I have the rest on Switch it’s my go to platform for this series can’t way to play this
Great games did all the ones on Xbox so deffo grab this is multiplat. Recommend playing these if haven't 🙂
Finally! I've been waiting so long for the digital version of the game.
@GravyThief Some people that got the physical carts have already dumped the rom so you should be able to find it with a bit of searching. I doubt WayForward would sell the rom itself.
Yeah, just waiting for the Switch release of this. Getting a new GBA title playable on the console in 2025 is cool, but I'm very over playing those games on old hardware lol
