Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Orion Setting

As many would have expected, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 — currently codenamed Orion — will once again take place in Night City. However, it sounds like a second setting will also be introduced.

This surprisingly juicy info comes from Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith himself. In an interview with Polish outlet tvgry, the veteran tabletop RPG designer lets slip the existence of "Chicago gone wrong" in CD Projekt Red's in-development title.

While explaining his continued role as an advisor on all things Cyberpunk, Pondsmith recalls meeting with someone from the sequel's environmental team. At that point, he mentions that "there's another city we visit", and quickly catches himself. "I'm not telling you any more than that," he adds, with a wry smile.

"Night City's still there," Pondsmith clarifies, but he apparently enjoyed seeing this second setting come together.

"This really does work, and it doesn't feel like Blade Runner — it feels more like Chicago gone wrong".

The interview itself lasts a good 40 minutes or so, but the full thing is well worth watching if you're a Cyberpunk fan. As always, Pondsmith's the kind of guy you could listen to for hours, days, maybe even weeks.

Of course, beyond playing on Pondsmith's brief description with your own imagination, there's not much to decipher here — but these comments do give us some fresh insight into the scope of 2077's follow-up.

We're left with questions, though. How will Night City have actually changed between games? Is this second city only available to visit for a specific mission, or is it another fully explorable environment?

Orion is still early in its development cycle, but these are queries that CD Projekt Red will already have the answers to. Here's hoping that the project continues to tick along smoothly — although it'll no doubt be quite some time until we get to see it, especially with The Witcher 4 being the studio's next release.
