This is quite possibly one of the most unusual projects we’ve reported on in a while: Electric Airship and Critical Games are making a throwback turn-based RPG featuring lesser-known heroes from other games named Infinite Alliance.
So, that means you’ll be adding the likes of Glenn from Chained Echoes and the unnamed character from 8-Bit Adventures 2 to your party. It’s basically a union of indie JRPG-style protagonists, all under one roof.
But here’s the other interesting wrinkle: the game’s free. And not free in the sense that this is a new gacha game like Genshin Impact – it’s actually completely free-to-play. While there will be optional in-game purchases, the publisher says it’s going to donate any money it makes to charity.

“Engage in stylish turn-based battles with a party of nine unique heroes, and encounter familiar friends, foes, and environments re-imagined,” the blurb reads.
“Infinite Alliance showcases the creative variety of the independent JRPG scene, and we hope you’ll discover your next favourite game through this epic free adventure.”
Here’s the full roster of characters announced thus far:
Heroes
- Glenn from Chained Echoes
- The Warrior (named by the player) from 8-Bit Adventures 2
- Noa from Jack Move
- Whoopis from My Familiar
- Vera and Arin from Eternal Remnant
- Alexandra from Quartet
- Rio from Shrine’s Legacy
- Dustin from Kingdoms of the Dump
- Chel from For a Vast Future
- Gio from Geo Mythica
Villains
- Drago from Beloved Rapture
- Montam from Venaitura
- The Fateshifter from Ephemeral Tale
- Qliphoth—an original villain
- And more to be announced
The game’s not due out until 2026, so you’re going to have to sit tight a little while before you get the chance to play this one. The battle system in the trailer looks pretty neat, though.

Qliphoth? Wait a second, let me get my Lovecraftian Encyclopedia.
Jack Move 💚 Awesome to see that game included! This looks like a fun collaboration!
@12AngryCats Dev here - thank you very much 12AngryCats! I love Jack Move too The hope is that most people interested will know at least one game, and then they can discover all the other characters and games through the story of Infinite Alliance =)
Jack Move and Chained Echoes! I know Chained Echoes always gets its praise but I really enjoyed Jack Move too. The aesthetic was right up my alley.
Interesting. As it's pixel-art, i'll probably play on handheld. Always feels better than on a massive TV.
Thank you for all the kind words everyone!
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare - I agree; I don't like gacha or overbearing mtx personally either. So I appreciate you saying that!
When you say "I wonder if that's just artwork/character design, or is there more to the twist?", I don't quite understand what you mean sorry. Happy to answer if you can give a bit more clarification though =)
@CriticalGames This looks really good. Your artstyle is fantastic. Im always interested in how these types of projects start. Did you approach the devs from these games to suggest the crossover?
@Bunchesopuppies no need! Just go ask your local Rabbi!
This is such a great idea. Indie JRPGs often get overlooked and could really use this kind of cross promotion and exposure. I also really like how the art style is clean enough for each character to be visually recognizable and distinct even though it's all sprite work. Great job!
@Bunchesopuppies Qlipoth is a term from kaballah and refers to the 'outer husks' of the 10 sephirot on the tree of life and represent the opposite or undesirable qualities of each one.
These days it tends to be used mainly by edgelords as a source of inspiration for acts of 'evil' and game developers looking to impart a bit of darkness and edginess into their games.
@DreadfulDragon learn something new every day.
The Infinite Alliance…but the alliance isn’t infinite until the game releases in 2026. Is it truly infinite if it hasn’t yet begun? Perhaps the alliance has always existed—and always will—but it isn’t until 2026 that Critical Games finally immerses us all in its lore and fleshes out the details with their playable game.
As an aside, this is the type of game I’d love to play on the Vita. I’ll just have to do it via remote play, cleverly disguising my iPhone by scrawling “PS Vita” on the case with a black Sharpie. 😋
I can't wait to play this. I am already rubbing my pantaloons with glee at the prospect.
@Jey887 Thank you very much Jey! Yes, in mid-2023 I was getting into old Marvel comics, and I got this crazy idea from reading the 1984 Secret Wars haha. So I came up with a detailed concept, and approached each developer individually with a pitch. Luckily, they all thought it was a good idea and said yes! =)
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare Hahaha, Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, oi oi oi! But thank you very much for the explanation - that makes a lot more sense to me now!
So to answer your question, the characters bring their full history/personality/powers with them. Infinite Alliance is a story-driven game, so it's all about the characters =) Only 8-Bit Adventures 2 is my game - all the rest come from completely separate developers, which is why it's pretty special to bring so many together! Smash Bros. and Project X Zone (and Kingdom Hearts, but that's a little different) are the only other major examples I can think of myself.
So yeah, characters bring everything from their own experiences/original games into Infinite Alliance - so the hope is it'll be fun to see all of that mesh together!
@tabris95 Thank you very much tabris95! That's very much how I and other developers in the scene felt. And I'm so glad you like the art! The character sprites were done by Jason Perry, and I'm really thrilled with how they turned out
@DreadfulDragon Spot on! In my case, I was looking for words or names that carried the meaning of "husk" in various languages. So that's what it's in reference to here =)
@jgrangervikings1 Haha, touche! Although the alliance has technically begun; it's just currently restricted to a few people behind the scenes
Thank you very much! I agree, it'd be awesome to see it on Vita, but sadly that ship has sailed haha.
@Saucymonk Wow! I think this might be my favourite endorsement yet XD The world needs more common usage of the word pantaloons!
