We love a retro-style 2D action game, and Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound continues to look like one of the most exciting examples on the horizon.

Developed by The Game Kitchen (Blasphemous), this new gameplay trailer is all about Kumori, the second playable protagonist in the throwback action platformer.

Kumori is an elite member of the Black Spider Clan, a group which has served as long-time adversaries in the Ninja Gaiden series.

In Ragebound, however, Kumori must form an alliance with the primary playable character, Kenji, who is yet to complete his training under Ryu Hayabusa.

The two characters play fairly differently from one another, with Kenji wielding a katana and performing powerful attacks at close quarters; Kumori is more about speed and range, using her kunai to strike from any angle.

It appears that the two will merge in some fashion early in the story, giving you access to skills from both characters at once.

You'll be in control of Kenji for the majority, but there are certain segments where Kumori will return to a corporeal form for a brief time.

Each character also brings their own benefits, like Kenji's passive upgrades and Kumori's Shadow Arts, which unlock powerful special attacks.

It just looks really slick from where we're sitting, and the combined dual protagonists is an interesting idea that looks great in motion.

Ragebound is scheduled for summer 2025 on PS5 and PS4. What do you think? Tell us in the comments section below.
