Update: As expected, Far Cry 5 will now run at 60 frames-per-second on PS5, as part of a patch that optimises the PS4 game on Sony's new-gen console. The update is available to download now, and is deplying ahead of a free weekend for the release, scheduled to run 23rd March through 27th March.

Original Article: Ubisoft has been pretty good updating old games from its back catalogue to run better on PS5, and it’s looking like Far Cry 5 could be next. While the French publisher is yet to officially announce the news, it hinted at a “highly requested feature for next-gen consoles”, as the title prepares to celebrate its fifth anniversary. Looking at the updates it’s made to the likes of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and The Crew 2, we’re going to assume this will allow the release to run at 60 frames-per-second on modern hardware.

The firm will be sharing information over the next three weeks, so we won’t have to wait too long for confirmation. Assuming our assumption is accurate, however, you won’t even have to purchase a copy of the first-person shooter to take advantage, as Far Cry 5 has been part of PS Plus Extra since late last year.

We liked the game when it released on PS4, but felt it was a safe entry for a series that had been growing increasingly stale. “Ubisoft is clearly more interested in making an experience that appeals to everyone to satisfy the bottom line,” we remarked in our 7/10 review. “That's a real shame, because there are the makings of a highly entertaining sandbox survival adventure here.”
