Generally regarded as the worst Tomb Raider game ever, PS5 and PS4 players will soon be able to subject themselves to Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness by way of a second Lara Croft remastered collection. It's out next month, but as a new blog post on the Tomb Raider website shares, the updated experience shouldn't be quite as bad as it was on PS2.
Aspyr is working to update and enhance the game, and restore some cut content. For starters, the modern control scheme used in the first set of Tomb Raider remasters is back (alongside tank controls as an option) which makes Lara Croft "more responsive and intuitive to handle". You can now fully rotate the camera, jump in the direction the camera is pointing, shoot in mid-air, perform consecutive jumps, and shoot around corners in stealth mode.
As for the times you play as Kurtis, he can now use his Chirugai and tap into his psychic powers to protect himself in a shield. He can also now sprint like Lara Croft and also shoot around corners in stealth mode. Further, an unfinished area of the PS2 game, the training area of the Parisian Back Streets, has been fully restored to help you learn the commando crawl ability without having to glitch your way into the place.
Finally, cut voice lines for Lara and Kurtis have been restored, Von Croy's cane will now appear in your inventory for a secret, and the pawnshop operated by Daniel Rennes will sell guns and weapon accessories. You can learn even more on the website.
Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered releases for PS5, PS4 on 14th February 2025, restoring The Last Revelation, Chronicles, and The Angel of Darkness for modern hardware. Will you be picking up the collection? Let us know in the comments below.

Still haven't even picked up the first 3 yet.
I'm still waiting on the PS5 versions getting Platinum trophies, not paying for incomplete products (yes, I know its on Sony to stop being dicks)
Getting this day one, for me personally Chronicles was the worst entry in the TR franchise.
But yes AoD was really broken, especially the helicopter scene.
@Mintie How did you cope 20 years back when Trophies didn't exist?
@DennisReynolds I didn't! Oh the bodies I left in my wake...
Seriously though, they didn't exist so weren't a part of my enjoyment of games. They exist now and not having a complete feature in the (supposed) highest end version of a release is not cool.
@Mintie if I just pat you on the head and say "Wooowwwwwwww...you are a very impressive and good gamer" will you purchase a game without trophies?
I don't even know how to look at mine. What an absolute curse.
@Mintie no platinum trophies include is not a complete product? Meh
I'm just hoping they've added a 'step backwards' button to the modern controls. How can that still be missing?
@sanderson72 you can step backwards with the modern controls but you need to draw your weapons first.
Angel of Darkness had so much potential but it was released in a really poor state. The atmosphere, music and art direction were great though. Can’t wait to play the remaster.
A polished turd is still a turd. Angel of Darkness is an awful game. Tomb Raider 4 however is one of the best games from the PSO era. I just wished we could be it seperate from the other 2.
I would rather play the second Tomb Raider trilogy than any of the modern games. I'm so sick of the overly-emotional Lara we've been getting these past few years.
I feel like we've actually gone backwards rather than forwards. How is it that the original Lara was more of a girlboss than this one is?
I'll pick up both collections eventually. Already own them all individually but the antiquated controls have kept me from enjoying them.
This is awesome — I was quietly optimistic that they would at least acknowledge and repair some of the bugginess inherent in AoD, but the fact that they've gone out of their way to restore the content is music to my ears!
I loved the first 2 and haven't quite finished the 3rd, I'll buy this day one to continue reliving my youth.
I like the first remaster trilogy, played it on and off a few months ago. I'll get this one sometime down the line.
I'll be picking this collection, but on Steam first, and play it with tank controls using keyboard only, because I want to feel that same experience from 20 years ago. I'm not sure about modern controls, will try it... if it's any good and doesn't ruin the classic TR experience then I will pick this up on PS5 as well.
@Mintie You’ll need to play the PS4 versions for that I’m afraid. PS5 won’t be getting platinum trophies for each game.
Sorry did I miss something? Who the hell is Kurtis?
I wanna play this as TR was one of my favorite franchises growing up, but I'm waiting for the eventual release of 1-6 as a bundle.
@Gremio108 He’s the second playable character in AoD.
@LifeGirl maybe you liked her more because she wasn’t much more than guns and pointy, pixelated boobs? Because there’s no way that mindless drone was better than the “new” Lara. Granted, the new one’s not so great herself.
Angel of Darkness is a complete turd of a game in every way. All the remastering and QoL improvements will never un-turd it
@LifeGirl right. And if she was just a bad ass lady then she'd be a "Mary Sue." Please.
@LikelySatan I hope you are not implying that I would say that because that would be a lie.
@LifeGirl yeah it's just the whole picking apart ladies thing recently. Getting old.
Cool, this is a great start, but the big concern I've been seeing (and wondering a bit myself): Bug fixes. Will the game actually be...you know, not buggy (well, less buggy to the point of being beatable) now?
@ReddMcKnight I hope so — I got pretty far into AoD but I encountered a bug while playing as Kurtis where I went through a door and the level environment just straight up didn't load. But my save file was already up to that point and with no way to revert it outside of starting over, I ended up shelving it. I'm pretty keen to revisit and finally finish it.
@Andee
I don't want to be pessimistic, really, I don't, but this has happened before: If developers don't mention bug fixes (or other elements of games) when people ask, it usually means that they will not fix them, then pull an EA "Deal With It" stunt. Again, I don't want to be like this, but there's a reason I've made friends with indie developers: They actually care (the ones I know anyway).
